Flamengo are the next to receive their prizes, raucous cheers coming from their passionate fans. One woman is in streams of tears as she watches manager Jorge Jesus have a chat with Fifa gaffer Gianni Infantino.

The officials, predictably, collect their medals with the sound of pantomime jeers in their ears. One of the linesmen asks a Qatari royal to sign his flag!

Splendid scenes as Liverpool's players part into two lines to clap through third-placed Monterrey on the way to collecting their medals.

The only sour note in Liverpool's night is the sight of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in crutches after appearing to injure his ankle in the second half.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson: "It was an interesting game. I am sure it was interesting to watch but we kept going, good performance and mentality shined through. We could have scored a couple more. Overall delighted with the result and performance in difficult conditions.

"We have found a way for a long time now. Some late goals, we just want to keep going, keep improving. Keep working hard and putting in performances like that."

Former Brazil (and, less successfully, QPR) keeper Julio Cesar is the man trusted to bring out the Club World Cup bling. If you want anyone to carry the trophy out then it is a goalie. Safe hands.

They deserved it. They were the better team and they had the better legs as the game went on and it was a great goal. Liverpool continually get results not always playing the free-flowing football we expect.

Hugs all round between Liverpool's squad and staff. There are not many competitions the Reds haven't won... now this can also be crossed off the list.
