That was nearly one of the most freakish goals of the season! Ashley Westwood launches an optimistic cross into the box from the centre of the pitch and it gets caught by a gust of wind as it bounces, rising over a scrambling Martin Dubravka before drifting just wide!

Javier Manquillo does well to evade Erik Pieters and put in a decent cross from the right towards Andy Carroll, but Phil Bardsley clears.

'Come on Burnley!' is the cry as the crowd begin to liven up, probably to keep warm more than anything. There is little sign of a breakthrough so far though with half-time looming.

Joelinton again catches James Tarkowski on the foot with a late challenge. The referee shows him a yellow card.

Burnley fans aren't happy as the referee gives a Newcastle free-kick for a foul on Andy Carroll - and they are right to be. Replays show it was his own player Joelinton who barged him to the floor!

Fortunately for the referee, the free-kick comes to nothing.

It looks like Fabian Schar is fine to continue, though he has a grumble at the referee for the challenge. VAR did have a quick check but correctly ruled it was not a foul.

Newcastle summer signing Joelinton has been pushed out wide left this afternoon in the absence of the injured Allan Saint-Maximin. We have not seen much from him so far though.

I wonder if Steve Bruce might be tempted to stick him up top in the second half and form a giant strike force with Andy Carroll? They would certainly be a handful.
