Positive vibes for both sides going into this fixture after wins apiece last weekend.

A smidgen of breathing space for St Mirren in the suffocating hothouse of the relegation battle with that 1-0 win at Hamilton - remarkably, their first away points of the season.

As for Livingston, after a run of nine games without a win they remedied that in superb style with a 3-0 smashing of Kilmarnock.

The conditions likely to play a part today - wet, cold and altogether miserable in Paisley.

  8. 'Let's make Tynecastle a fortress' - Stendelpublished at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Hearts v St Johnstone (15:00)

New Hearts manager Daniel Stendel aims for a winning start in his first match in charge of the Premiership strugglers this afternoon.

The German tells BBC Sportsound: "It has been a great week's training and I can feel the power and passion in this club. I am sure we can show it today.

"The big thing for us is making Tynecastle a fortress. I can only speak about the last few days and we have a good team and a good team spirit.

"I told the players it doesn't matter what happened in the past, we start today new."

  13. Cove crisis?published at 14:22 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Scottish League Two

After two consecutive defeats, fourth-tier leaders Cove Rangers will look to get back on track against a Stenhousemuir side who have won once in eight outings and will be confident of doing so having won eight in a row at home.

Edinburgh City's win over Cove last weekend narrowed the gap to two points, but the capital side won't get it easy away to fourth-top Annan Athletic, who have won two in a row and are unbeaten in eight home league games this season.

Third-top Cowdenbeath have only won once in seven games and travel to face a Brechin City side who ended a run of six defeats be winning 4-2 away to Stirling Albion last weekend, thanks in part to goalkeeper Lewis McMinn's goal struck from 90 yards.

Having followed a run of five straight wins with six without a win, Elgin City host Albion Rovers.

  14. Top-of-table test for Falkirk bossespublished at 14:20 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Scottish League One

Match of the day in the third tier is at Falkirk Stadium, where the third-top hosts, who confirmed caretaker head coaches Lee Miller and David McCracken will be in charge until the summer, protect a four-game unbeaten run against new leaders Raith Rovers, who themselves have not lost in six.

Airdrieonians, who lost their lead and their six-game winning run away to Rovers last weekend, host Peterhead.

East Fife, who have dropped to fourth, will see entertaining Stranraer, five points adrift at the bottom, as an ideal chance to end a run of four games without a win having not lost to the Blues in five meetings.

Second-bottom Forfar Athletic will hope to extend their four-game unbeaten run at home to Dumbarton, who have already beaten the hosts 3-1 twice this season.

  15. Happy Dundee Utd at Gayfieldpublished at 14:19 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Scottish Championship

Having won in midweek, Dundee United travel to nearby Arbroath, where they have not lost in eight visits, with a 10-point lead at the top of the second tier and seeking an eighth consecutive win.

However, Arbroath themselves had a heartening 1-1 draw away to Ayr United that took them into fifth spot and have extended their own unbeaten run to four games.

Having missed a chance to leapfrog Dunfermline Athletic into third as their run of games without win extended to four, Ayr host bottom side Alloa Athletic, themselves without a win in three. Ayr are unbeaten in five games against the Wasps.

Having moved up to third with three consecutive wins, Dunfermline visit a Dundee side who have dropped to sixth after four games without a win. The Pars haven't lost to the Dark Blues in eight meetings since January 2010.

  16. Rare run within reach...published at 14:14 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    St Mirren v Livingston (15:00)

Both of these sides are looking to make it back-to-back victories, something that doesn't happen too often for either.

Livi last managed it back in August, beating St Mirren in the process.

The Buddies haven't done two in a row since May, when they were battling to avoid the drop last season.

  17. 'Kilmarnock need to fight and battle'published at 14:11 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Ross County v Kilmarnock (15:00)

Kilmarnock have gone three games without a victory and have blanked in front of goal in their last two, against St Johnstone and Livingston.

The 3-0 defeat at Livi was a bit of a shocker and manager Angelo Alessio wants to see a reaction in Dingwall today.

"We need to fight and battle and not be easy to beat," the Italian said at his media conference this week.

With only one win in seven outings, the Ayrshire side could do with a lift.

  18. McInnes stresses importance of first goalpublished at 14:09 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Aberdeen v Hamilton (15:00)

Aberdeen will be smarting after a 3-0 cuffing at Easter Road, with their normally robust defence looking none too clever at times.

Sam Cosgrove has hit 18 goals this season but manager Derek McInnes has been calling on others to chip in and ease the burden of responsibility on the big striker.

Ryan Hedges, Niall McGinn and Andy Considine are next in the scoring charts on four.

“I watched the Hibs game back and we had some brilliant opportunities but we didn’t take them," said McInnes earlier this week.

“We did a lot right in the game but the first goal is so important and it changed the game. Looking back all three goals we lost were avoidable."

  19. Stendel gets started at Tynecastlepublished at 14:05 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2019

    Hearts v St Johnstone (15:00)

Daniel Stendel begins his reign as Hearts boss today and he will be hoping to improve on the club's dismal record of just three league wins at Tynecastle in 2019.

St Johnstone are the visitors, with both teams locked on 12 points at the wrong end of the table.

The German is just in the door but has had time for a cabinet reshuffle, with reserve team boss Andy Kirk promoted.

Austin MacPhee, who had been in interim charge these past five weeks, won’t be in the home dugout and neither will coaches Jon Daly and Liam Fox.
