Wolves and United have admittedly not been a great advert for it tonight, but for me part of the magic of the cup is the chance for a plucky lower league team to hang on for a replay against a big team and a massive windfall - we can’t lose that!

Rubbish, really. Two shots on target in the whole game, none from the visitors. A tired set of players.

Completely agree that, for a neutral, extra time and pens are exciting and I wish this game was going that way. That said, don't forget that cup replays can be special (and profitable!) for the smaller clubs.

Job done, not without a memorable Tom Pope moment.

Adama Traore smashes the ball across goal, Victor Lindelof sticks out a boot and it could go anywhere - but he finds touch...

  8. Foden fires homepublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 4 January 2020

    Man City 4-1 Port Vale

Here's how Phil Foden gave Manchester City a fourth. Riyad Mahrez wants number five but Scott Brown saves with his legs. It could have been eight or nine but for the Vale keeper.

Sergio Aguero really is a ruthless guy. Even as injury time nears and his side are 4-1 up he wants more and presses in the area to make something of a looping ball. He lifts it over the bar.

Got to agree with Jose Mourinho, the on field referee is no more than an assistant. The real referee is sat many miles away.

Nathan Marzan: You could add 90 mins to this match and i still don't think Man United would score.

Phil Taylor: Games like this I wish we still had golden goal rather than a replay. Take a player off each side every 10 minutes until one team scores and settle it this evening.

    Thoughts?

    Man City 4-1 Port Vale

Manchester City easing home and still entertaining the masses by swarming forward. They've peppered the away goal but to be fair to Port Vale, it's been a gallant offering and they've had their moments.

    Dominic Solanke

He looks a bit sheepish but Dominic Solanke has now finally opened his Bournemouth account! What is going on in the Luton backline as they clear the ball into a team-mate, the ball ricochets around in the six-yard box and falls at the £19m signing's feet, he squeezes off a shot which trickles over the line and in.

I think Lowe did catch Ndidi and it was a penalty. It just depends on how that person watching it is looking at it but for me, it was a penalty.

    Philip Billing

A cruel deflection, but that should be that now for Bournemouth. Philip Billing has his second of the game, hitting a rasping swerver from 20-odd yards which comes off a defender on its way into the back of the net.

Another penalty appeal for Manchester United waved away as Marcus Rashford drives into the box - Ruben Neves' challenge was a bit risky but he got enough of the ball to win it.
