    Bournemouth 0-0 Aston Villa

Strong start for Bournemouth but they need to take one of these chances.

The ball sits up nicely for big midfielder Philip Billing 25 yards out, but the former Huddersfield man's left-footed drive is smothered low down by Pepe Reina.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Aston Villa

A comfortable save for Pepe Reina as Ryan Fraser's cross from the right comes off the back of Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz and into the hands of the ex-Liverpool goalkeeper.

Looking forward to watching Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish in action.

Absolutely class player and England boss Gareth Southgate should be taking a keen interest in this game.

Pepe Reina in the Aston Villa goal, still going strong at the tender age of 37.

The Spaniard comes out well to claim a long, bouncing ball over the top.

    Bournemouth 0-0 Aston Villa

Big game at the bottom of the table this and Bournemouth have started on the front foot.

Full-back Adam Smith finds space in behind and nods into the side-netting, but he was well offside anyway.

Some Aston Villa fans were still making their way into the East Stand as the captains tossed up.

Travel chaos - including the weekend closure of part of the M27, and a freight train derailment just north of Southampton forcing train cancellations and diversions - may have been a factor. Looks like they're all here now, thankfully.

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings makes his first return to Bournemouth today - having been once the Cherries' record signing (£8m from Ipswich in 2015) and four years later, their record sale when he joined Villa last summer for a fee reported to be somewhere between £20m and (eventually) £26.5m.

Having been kept out of the side here by Nathan Ake's form, Mings has gone on to win England caps this season at Villa, but manager Eddie Howe bears no ill will towards his former player.

"When he went to Villa [on loan] and got promotion there, that was an amazing experience for Tyrone, and then it’s difficult once someone’s heart has gone to another club to force them to stay," Howe told the Daily Echo., external

"He couldn't wait any longer and I understood that. But we watch him now with pride, knowing that we played a small part in his journey to where he is now and there’s only positive wishes from us towards Tyrone."

There are some interesting sub-plots away from the main ‘six pointer’ talk at the Vitality Stadium.

It’s the first time Eddie Howe has left Steve Cook out of a Premier League game this season when he’s been fit and available. He’s on the bench.

Tyrone Mings will be desperate to prove a few points to the Cherries hierarchy after he struggled to make an impact during his time on the south coast.

And will Mbwana Samatta provide a central focus to Villa’s forward line that they’ve arguably been missing since Wesley’s injury? He’ll also be the first Tanzanian to play in the Premier League.

With no permanent January arrivals or departures, the main talking point at Bournemouth this week was Ryan Fraser's revealing interview with BBC Radio Solent, in which the diminutive Scotland winger - who will be a free agent in the summer, and is widely expected to leave - said he "didn't play for the team" in the first half of the season.

Fraser contributed seven goals and 14 assists (only one behind league leader Eden Hazard) last season, but has managed only one goal and three assists this term.

He added: "All I can really say is that, for the next six months, I'll give everything. After that, I don't really know what's going to happen. But I'll fight for the club, I'll fight for the badge, I'll fight for my team-mates, I'll fight for the manager and fans."

BBC Radio Solent commentator Kris Temple, who conducted the interview, had this to add:, external "My Fraser thoughts... I think what he meant was, 'I’ve been below-par, unable to make a difference'. Not 'I’ve not tried'. Wee Man is a complex character. His football fluctuates with his mindset, always has. Has a big role to play, but needs a smile on his face."
