  1. Hampden hoodoo for Czechs?

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

You know what, I preferred the getting carried away thing…

In total, the Czech Republic/Czechoslovakia have played six previous games at Hampden Park (D1 L5). A 2-2 draw in September 2011 is the only time they have avoided defeat.

That was a sore one right enough since it effectively killed off Scottish hopes of reaching Euro 2012 and there was a blatant dive for a stoppage-time penalty.

  2. Reality Czech

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

You knew that headline was coming, right?

Those two wins against the Czechs came in last year’s iteration of the Nations League. But there were some unusual circumstances; certainly in the first meeting.

Scotland’s 2-1 success in Olomouc in September came against what can only be described as the C-team since the hosts had to choose an entirely new squad at short notice following a Covid outbreak.

Both teams had some big names missing for the return at Hampden in October and an early goal from Ryan Fraser was enough, although the second-half was pretty much a siege on David Marshall’s penalty box.

Ryan Fraser scored the only goal when Scotland beat the Czech Republic at Hampden last October

  3. Scotland enjoy best of recent meetings

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

Steve Clarke has 11 wins from his 22 games in charge, with four of his six defeats coming in the first five internationals. Before we get too carried away, Scotland have beaten just one side ranked above them in that time. But, hey, that was the Czech Republic – twice!

Factor in a 1-0 friendly victory in Prague in March 2016 and Scotland have won their last three matches against the Czech Republic and are unbeaten in four. Now we are officially carried away!

  4. 'Reality sinking in'

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

    Kenny McLean

Scotland international midfielder on BBC One

Quote Message: It is disappointing not to be there, but I'm over that now and I can enjoy it. It will have sunk in for the boys this week especially what they've done and what they have achieved and we can go that step further and do well in this group
  5. 'Buzzing for Scotland'

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

    Darren Fletcher

Former Scotland international on BBC One

Quote Message: I would have given anything to have played for Scotland at a major tournament. It didn't happen for me, but I'm buzzing as much as anyone and we are happy for the country
  6. Tierney suffering from 'niggle' - Clarke

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

Scotland manager Steve Clarke is hopeful Kieran Tierney will be fit for Friday's match against England, as the Arsenal defender sits out today's clash through injury.

"He's had a niggle during the week," he tells BBC Sport. "He's not ready for this one, but hopefully the next one."

On selecting Lyndon Dykes and Ryan Christie ahead of Che Adams up front, Clarke said: "Lyndon was a very, very influential player against the Czech Republic in September, him and Ryan were excellent against Serbia and deserve the chance to play here again."

  7. Sack the DJ

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

    Scott Mullen

    BBC Scotland at Hampden

The "official Euro 2020 DJ" who is apparently inside Hampden today is not endearing himself to the natives.

He starts off well by sticking on a bit of Loch Lomond, but just as we are getting to the "wedding jumpy" bit, he presses pause to introduce the mascots.

Kieran Tierney is away for his happy hardcore CD from the dressing room...

  8. 'Armstrong adds a real attacking threat'

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

    Neil McCann

Former Hearts & Rangers winger on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: I'm sure Cooper will be comfortable in that back three. The real surprise for me is Armstrong. I thought McGregor would start, but Armstrong coming in adds a real attacking threat. It would suggest to me that McTominay will play a more anchored role.
  9. Tournament form book

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

    Scotland Euro record: P6 W2 D1 L3 (Goals for 4, goals against 5)

    Czech Republic Euro record: P32 W16 D6 L13 (Goals for 42, goals against 43)

  10. How Scots can force Czech mate

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

Italy showed the way to success against the Czechs with a 4-0 win in their recent warm-up friendly.

The secret is to press them high and not let them build from the back, as they did in their next game - a 3-1 win over Albania.

Sparta Prague's Ondrej Celustka looked particularly vulnerable on the right of their central defence and Viktoria Plzen's Jakub Brabec didn't look too clever either.

Tactical analyst Stevie Grieve goes into forensic detail into how Scotland can win today here.

  11. Archie says Scotland will win!

One of Scottish football's most famous voices says Scotland must avoid the hype, but he is confident we'll win!

Archie Macpherson tells Radio Scotland's Lunchtime Live this is a "huge" occasion.

"I hope the Scotland team haven't been listening too much to the build-up," he warns.

However the legendary commentator says: "I think Scotland will win today despite what I am saying about going over the top."

  12. Storm brewing at Hampden

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

    Scott Mullen

    BBC Scotland at Hampden

Thick clouds are obscuring the national stadium in Glasgow as it finally becomes Scotland's moment to shine. We all hope.

As we know, fans have been in here for the last two hours in what feels like a completely different stadium. The Wi-Fi works for a start. Well, sort of.

A loud roar has just boomed out from the sloped stands here as Scotland's three keepers ambled on to the park, this time in their training gear and not the fancy get up provided to them by Robert Snodgrass and his new fashion label.

There may be only 12,000 supporters in here today, but the place will be rocking.

  13. 'Great chance for Cooper'

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

    Charlie Adam

Former Scotland midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Quote Message: This is why you have a 26-man squad. Liam Cooper is playing in the Premier League and has done really well. It's a great chance for him. I'm looking at the height advantage we could have at set pieces now
  14. No Tierney is 'a huge blow'

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

    Willie Miller

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Quote Message: If there's one player you wouldn't want to miss out, it's Keiran Tierney. It's a huge blow for the team. He is a great defender, but he's got so much going forward. You can't be anything but totally shattered
  15. Czechs stick with winning formula

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

Czech head coach Jaroslav Silhavy fields the same starting line-up from Tuesday's 3-1 win over Albania in their final pre-tournament friendly.

Sevilla's Tomas Vaclik retains his place in goal with Werder Bremen's Jiri Pavlenka having been ruled out of the competition after picking up a back injury in their 4-0 defeat by Italy a few days earlier.

Augsburg's Tomas Koubek, who joined the squad on Tuesday as a replacement, is on the bench along with Ales Mandous of Sigma Olomouc.

  16. 'We've got McGinn...'

    Scotland v Czech Republic (14:00)

Who do fancy for first goalscorer today?

John McGinn has an impressive 10 goals in 33 appearances for Scotland.

He's the only player in the squad on double figures.
