  1. Oh what a night! Is it 2016 again?published at 19:35 British Summer Time 16 June 2021

    FT: Turkey 0-2 Wales

    What a night for Wales.

Simply put, that was a magnificent performance in a huge game, giving Wales almost one foot in the next round.

Not only that, but Wales can even start to think about who they will play in the next round, with Russia, Denmark and Finland the most likely opponents.

But first off it's Rome on Sunday as Wales play in what now looks like being a clash to see who tops the table in Group A.

Thank you for following along with us and hopefully we will see you all again for Wales' trip to Italy on Sunday.

But first of all, it's just a matter of minutes until Italy and Switzerland play in Rome.

Wales' Euro journey feels like it is just getting started, the spirit of 2016 is alive and well.

    Enjoy your night.

  2. 'We need James to get us up the pitch'published at 19:34 British Summer Time 16 June 2021

    FT: Turkey 0-2 Wales

    Ashley Williams
Former Wales captain on BBC One

We didn't get the ball enough to Daniel James against Switzerland and we did today. He's just a great player to play with.

His pace is so frightening, I can only imagine being a fullback and playing against him. We need to continue to get him the ball and he needs to continue to play like this.

He's doing pitch length runs and we need him to get us up the pitch. As a centre half, if you've got a winger like him on your team and you've been defending for 10/15 minutes, it's great when you can get the ball to him or you do a hopeful clearance and he turns it into something good.

Wales have the players to go and beat Italy. They could have won the game by six or seven tonight, that is no exaggeration.

Wales manager Rob Page said: "I couldn't be more proud, I've just said to them to create the number of chances we did is unbelievable.

"We are disappointed we didn't score more but to win in the manner we did, credit goes to the players.

"No disrespect to Turkey but they are a different side to Switzerland, but we knew we had more to come.

"The first game is always tough, you need to not get beat, so to be where we are now with four points is great.

"When you have quality like Dan James, Aaron Ramsey, Gareth Bale, Kieffer Moore, you are always going to cause teams problems.

"The lads rose to the challenge, our supporters did a great job too.

"What Gareth really showed was character, everyone makes mistakes, but he got on with it and was man of the match.

"He played a massive part as a captain, as was Aaron Ramsey who I thought was outstanding tonight.

"And Joe Morrell, who cannot even get in a Championship side, but you see him play like that in an international.

"We want to go into every game to win, we will have to be mindful of Italy, we will pick a team that can go and compete."

  7. Wales 'grabbed chance with both hands' - Allenpublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 16 June 2021

    FT: Turkey 0-2 Wales

Wales midfielder Joe Allen said: "I'm knackered, but what a great feeling.

"There was so much riding on the game, like we've done previously we have grabbed it with both hands.

"We started great, created chances throughout, and I think we were well worth the win.

"On another day we may have got another couple goals.

"As a player you want to play in this environment, but we are a confident group who like the underdog tag and we did that tonight.

"We've given ourselves every chance now to get through to the next round.

"We've got a huge game against an even stronger team this weekend so we need to recover before that."

Looking at the Switzerland game, there was a bit more nerves than we thought but not tonight, they got after it tonight.

I'm really looking forward to the game now, because now we can play a bit more free. I think they're getting loads of confidence tonight. This squad can now show what they can do in a major tournament and go attack Italy.

You want to finish top of the group because you might get a slightly easier tie in the next round. Winning tonight was everything.

It's massive, it puts the pressure on Switzerland who are a good team. They were better than Turkey when we look at both games.

He scores every penalty and free kick in training.

When the camera zoomed in on him, he didn't look comfortable like he normally does and I've never seen run up to the ball to take a penalty like that.

I didn't feel confident, and that's the first time ever I can say that I didn't feel comfortable with Gareth running onto it, for whatever reason. It just didn't look right.

Wales goal scorer Aaron Ramsey said: "I felt a bit of relief, I had two chances before to score but that first half today was superb, we really dominated.

"Second half we showed great character and I think we thoroughly deserved the win.

"The penalty was a big moment but we didn't panic, we didn't leave anything out there, and we worked hard from each other.

"We've given ourselves a brilliant opportunity now, we've got another big game to go, we are in a good position now.

"I've got a few [Juventus] team mates playing for Italy so it will be nice for me out there, but I'm representing my country now and we will do everything to win that game."

  14. 'Best moment of career so far' - Robertspublished at 19:14 British Summer Time 16 June 2021

    FT: Turkey 0-2 Wales

Wales goal scorer Connor Roberts said: "That's the best moment of my career that will probably never be matched.

"To be playing in a major competition is the pinnacle for me, and to almost seal us through to the next stage is incredible.

"Today is a massive step towards that, we have a massive game on Sunday, but it has done us no harm winning today.

"They [Aaron Ramsey and Gareth Bale] are world class players, we know what we expect from them, Gareth said he was sorry for missing the penalty but without them I don't think we win tonight.

"We are a young group but we have resilience, people who will run until the last minute and we did that tonight.

"Chris Mepham had told me not to go forward for that corner! But that's just what I do, it's an incredible feeling."

  16. 'Ramsey is a world class player'published at 19:08 British Summer Time 16 June 2021

    FT: Turkey 0-2 Wales

    Ashley Williams
Former Wales captain on BBC One

It's a great goal, this partnership has been going on for years now.

As soon as Gareth Bale gets the ball onto his left leg, Aaron Ramsey knows exactly he's doing and Gaz finds him.

Perfect run, perfectly timed ball, good touch, kind of bobbled it in a little bit, but he had a few of those runs.

As a centre half its a nightmare to pick up that diagonal run when you're facing the guy that has the ball and Aaron knows that, we're talking about a world class player.

  17. Wales would have 'bitten your hand off' for four pointspublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 16 June 2021

    FT: Turkey 0-2 Wales

Wales captain Gareth Bale said: "I'm absolutely delighted with the win, we fought hard, worked our socks off, yes I missed a penalty but I feel I showed good character to keep going.

"That second goal at the end was the icing on the cake.

"Aaron [Ramsey] got in a few times, we've always linked up well, it was important to get the victory today.

"You'd like to think that [four points] would be enough, we will have to wait and see, if you'd offered us four points at the start we would have bitten your hand off.

"Playing in front of no fans is difficult, the fans were fantastic, I know most were Turkish but the Welsh fans were great too. It helped get your adrenaline going.

"We want to thank the fans at home too who I'm sure will be cheering in their millions."

We created so many chances today, we looked in control even out of possession.

Gareth Bale to go and have the bravery to say 'no we're not going to take it to the corner flag, we're Wales and we're going to dribble in.' He wants the goal and he wants to finish the tie off.
