'Italians now know we play good football'

Austria forward Marko Arnautovic: "It's hard for me to find the words. If luck goes our way, we win the game in 90 minutes.

"We played really well and created chances, but we could have finished them off better at times.

"Compliments to the team and everyone involved."

Austria midfielder Florian Grillitsch: "We were missing a few per cent, but we can be proud.

"We held our own against a very, very good Italy. I think Italians now know that we can play very good football."

'We deserve to go through'

Italy goalscorer Federico Chiesa: "Austria played well but we had our chances and we scored a couple of good goals.

"I think we deserve to go through. We are a group of 26 players and all of us are eager to help the team win games.

"This is what made the difference tonight."

'Imagine how this feels'

Italy goalscorer Matteo Pessina: "I am still trying to take in my goal against Wales, so imagine how this one feels.

"I will remember it for the rest of my career. In this team everybody can score and this is our main strength, we are a great group."

Team-mate Leonardo Spinazzola: "I'm happy with the victory, I think we played as a real team tonight.

"We defended all together when we needed to. After 90 minutes we said that we just had to improve the quality of the final passes and finally the goals arrived in extra time."

Austria captain David Alaba: "It's not easy to put that into words. We can be proud of ourselves, Austria can be proud of us.

"We gave everything, but in the end we weren't rewarded for our performance. That's really tough to take."

Italy boss Roberto Mancini: "We knew we had to suffer because Austria are the typical side who do not allow to play well.

"The substitutes made the difference for us, but everybody gave their best tonight. I'm happy because the lads gave everything to win even when we were tired."

Austria forward Sasa Kalajdzic: "I think the whole of Austria can be proud of this team.

"It came down to small things that decided the game. My goal was great; I don't think my head has ever been so close to the ground."

'Five subs make the difference'

The five substitutions and the sixth in extra-time - that ultimately will be the difference in some matches.

When you can make those substitutions and you can change the tactics in reaction to however the game is going, it's a massive bonus.

Whoever has the biggest squad and can utilise it the very best will have the advantage and I thought Italy did that really well tonight.

This was Federico Chiesa's second goal for Italy in 29 appearances.

This was the goal from substitute Matteo Pessina that ultimately gave Italy the victory in extra-time.

He has now scored four goals in his last four games for Italy, after failing to score in any of his first four appearances.

The manager has to be very proud of them because they put on a good show. Coming into this game we thought Italy the form team were going to dust this team down. They gave a good account of themselves but in the end the best team won.
