This is a terrific header from the big cart-horse, he gets up superbly. He bullies Lenglet, nudging him to take him out of the game and then he powers the header into the far corner.

It's a textbook header, no chance for Lloris!

    Cat among the pigeons.

I said Switzerland will feel they can get at France and they do exactly that.

It's assist king Steven Zuber who creates it again, clipping a fine cross for Haris Seferovic eight yards out to power a head into the bottom corner.

Seferovic outmuscled Clement Lenglet and Hugo Lloris could get nowhere near it.

    The world champions are stunned.

    It's settled down a little.

We don't often see France in high-scoring thrillers do we?

Unless it's the World Cup final, of course.

The French are happy to keep ahold of the ball while Switzerland sit in.

Switzerland will feel they can get at France.

A cross is whipped in to the far post which is missed by Raphael Varane and Presnel Kimpembe, but Haris Seferovic cannot convert at the back post.

Lively start from Kylian Mbappe on that left hand side. As soon as he gets on the ball you see Swiss players doubling up on him. He manoeuvres the ball with great quick feet and a little step over.

Remember that classic Diego Maradona pic being swarmed by about five or six Belgium shirts?

This is similar with Kylian Mbappe on the ball down the left and in come five Switzerland players to try and halt the France forward's run.

Presnel Kimpembe is still not moving too freely.

France might have a big problem here.

They already have left-footers Lucas Hernandez and Lucas Digne ruled out.

We might see a bagful of goals in this one too.

    He says in hope.

Karim Benzema gets to the byeline and pulls the ball back into the six yards box but Nico Elvedi stretches to get it away.

Paul Pogba then has a crack from the edge of the box which is blocked.

Switzerland manage to work out and get a corner of their own but this one flicks off Nico Elvedi's head and away from danger.

Mbappe off set pieces, which is probably a good thing. Great delivery from Griezmann, Varane gets up level with the near post, six-yards out but can't get the header on target.

Another injury concern for France? Surely not. Didier Deschamps looks uncomfortable on the touchline as PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe looks to have twisted his ankle while going for that corner.

He is back on his feet but hobbling very gingerly back up the pitch.

The dangerman Kylian Mbappe has already collected a pass in the Switzerland penalty area but is forced out wide by the defence.

That was a little easy in how they opened up the Swiss there.

Meanwhile, Raphael Varane rises to meet a corner at the near post but heads over from six yards out.

    France should be ahead.

Antoine Griezmann has played in each of France's last 51 matches, in a run that started on 31 August 2017 against the Netherlands.

The Barcelona forward is the only player to make more than 50 appearances for a European country since that date.

This is the size of the mountainous task on Switzerland's hands tonight.

France haven't lost a competitive match in over two years, with their last such defeat coming against Turkey in a European Championship qualifier in June 2019.

They have won 14 times and drawn five games since.

    France v Switzerland (20:00 BST)

    Simon Gleave
    Head of sports analysis, Gracenote

France began the tournament as third favourites according to the Gracenote World Football Ranking and remain in that position as the tournament goes into the knockout stage. Before the knockout phase beginning, France's chance of winning Euro 2020 had moved up a little to 11.8%.

Switzerland are ranked 15th in the world on the Gracenote World Football Ranking, putting them at a similar level to Denmark before the Danes played Wales. The Swiss team's chance of winning Euro 2020 has barely changed from 2.5% pre-tournament to 2.7% now.

With France ranked third in the world by Gracenote, they are strong favourites here to progress to a quarter-final place. The chance that France do that is estimated at 66% with Switzerland holding a 34% chance of pulling off a surprise.

  20. Lawro's predictionpublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 28 June 2021

    France v Switzerland (20:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

The Swiss are competent but they struggled against Italy in the group stage and I am expecting a similar story here.

We have not seen France find their groove yet, or not for long spells of games anyway, but they topped a difficult group and people like Paul Pogba have been excellent.

His passing has been top-drawer and his link-up play with Kylian Mbappe has been impressive too.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-0
