    League Two update

Salford v OldhamImage source, Rex Features

And now another of the League Two promotion chasers are behind!

Crewe Alexandra, in third, find themselves 1-0 behind to Jacob Bedeau's goal for Scunthorpe United.

Elsewhere, Salford, who beat Oldham Athletic 4-1 only last month, lead the same opposition this afternoon thanks to Brandon Thomas-Asante's strike.

And Crawley Town and Forest Green Rovers are also in front in their games.

    Stoke 0-0 Swansea

Joe Allen, against his former employers, measures things up from a free-kick in a promising position as Stoke look to get a foothold in the game.

He tries to slip the ball along the ground to Sam Clucas but the midfielder loses possession and Swans goalkeeper Freddie Woodman gathers.

Moments later it's better from Allen as he drives forward with the ball and shoots from 20 yards, testing Woodman for the first time.

    Better from The Potters.

    League One update

Accrington, who have lost their past three games, have gone head at Burton Albion through Dion Charles.

He showed great feet and composure to shot in after receiving a cross.

There have been just two goals in the five League One games so far this afternoon.

    Stoke 0-0 Swansea

Conor Gallagher is again at the heart of things and he hits a fierce drive, forcing Jack Butland in the Stoke goal to push the ball behind for a corner.

But the short corner routine comes to nothing and Stoke can clear their lines.

The Potters have been a bit sloppy early on and need to up their game.

    League Two update

It's been a relatively quiet start in the fourth tier, with just one goal in our 11 League Two fixtures so far.

But it's a fairly important goal, as lowly Mansfield Town have taken the lead against fifth-placed Bradford City thanks to Danny Rose's opener.

Eoin Doyle, making his fourth appearance since returning to the Bantams following a prolific loan spell with Swindon Town, could do with a first Bradford goal of the season.

Swansea are looking the livelier of the two sides in the early stages and have plenty of pace at their disposal.

No chances to report other than that early ball across the box from Bersant Celina which evaded Liverpool loanee Rhian Brewster.

Incidentally, this is the first time since the 2008-09 season that only one Championship fixture is being played on Saturday on FA Cup fourth round weekend - Blackpool won 2-0 against Birmingham that season.

You can impress your friends at the pub later with that little gem.

    Peterborough 1-0 Rotherham

Peterborough have now scored 30 goals at home in the league this season, more than any other side in the third tier.

Rotherham, meanwhile, are the highest scorers away from home, with 24 goals in their 13 games on the road.

As it stands the Posh are heading up to fifth in the table.

    Stoke 0-0 Swansea

Swansea new boy Conor Gallagher is trying to get things moving here and the first opening goes the way of the visitors.

Rhian Brewster is closest to getting a touch to a ball flashed across the area but it rolls away to safety.

An early wake-up call for Stoke.

GOAL: Peterborough 1-0 Rotherhampublished at 15:03 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2020

    Ivan Toney (2 mins)

    Talk about a fast start.

Rotherham force a couple of early corners but then Posh break and take the lead.

Siriki Dembele leads the counter-attack before feeding top scorer Ivan Toney.

The striker finishes back across the keeper from a tight angle for his 20th of the season in all competitions.

Toney is the subject of transfer speculation, and his price might have just gone up further.

One other thing to mention in League Two today - Leyton Orient are renaming a stand at the Breyer Group Stadium after their former head coach Justin Edinburgh today.

Edinburgh passed away aged 49 in June last year, weeks after leading the O's to the National League title and promotion back to the English Football League.

The West Stand is being officially renamed as the Justin Edinburgh Stand before their game against Newport County

Edinburgh also managed the Exiles, leading the Welsh club to promotion to League Two in 2013.

    Elsewhere in League Two

There are nine other matches in the fourth tier.

Third-placed Crewe Alexandra go to mid-table Scunthorpe United, while Plymouth Argyle could move into the automatic promotion places if they win at struggling Stevenage and the Railwaymen slip up.

Stevenage are only above the relegation zone on goal difference, although Boro are 14 goals better off than bottom club Morecambe.

The Shrimps host a Cambridge United side who have lost their past four.

Macclesfield are three points clear of danger following their six-point deduction and the Silkmen will be looking over their shoulders if they lose at home against Forest Green Rovers.

    Here are the games elsewhere:

    • Carlisle v Walsall
    • Crawley v Grimsby
    • Leyton Orient v Newport County
    • Mansfield v Bradford
    • Salford v Oldham

The top two in League Two - who are only separated by goal difference - are both in action.

League leaders Swindon Town have a six-point gap to the play-off places, although they have played two games more than fourth-placed Plymouth.

The Robins' lost last time out at Newport, but their promotion bid has been build on their home for,

Richie Wellens' side go for a seventh win in eight at the County Ground as they welcome Port Vale, who have won two of their past three.

Second-placed Exeter City are also at home this afternoon.

The Grecians have won their past three games in a 10-match unbeaten run and host a Colchester United side who will be looking to remain in the play-off places.

The U's have not suffered defeat in their past 14 league games - but have drawn five of their past six.

There are three other games in League One.

Burton Albion could move into the play-off places if they record a sixth win in seven league games. The Brewers welcome an Accrington Stanley side who are aiming to avoid a fourth straight defeat.

Fleetwood Town go to fellow mid-table side Bristol Rovers, with both sides out of form. The Cod Army are winless in four league games, while the Pirates are looking for a first win in seven in League One. The hosts welcome back manager Ben Garner, who returned from a leave of absence in midweek.

And Steve Evans' Gillingham side, who are unbeaten in six in the league, go to a Rochdale side who have won two of their past three to move six points clear of the relegation zone.

Gills fans have not enjoyed their recent trips to Spotland, losing their past three games there by a three-goal margin.

  17. Millers go for sixth straight winpublished at 14:39 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2020

    Ipswich v Lincoln & Peterborough v Rotherham (15:00 GMT)

    Chiedozie OgbeneImage source, Rex Features

Only two of the top six in League One play today.

A run of five consecutive victories has lifted Rotherham United to the top of the third tier, albeit on goal difference.

Yet the Millers have a tough assignment today as they travel to a Peterborough United side who have gone off the boil somewhat.

Posh were top in mid-October but have slipped to 8th after taking 13 points from their past 13 games.

Ipswich Town also ended 2019 with a torrid run, going eight league games without a win.

But they have recovered their form since the turn of the year, and a home win over mid-table Lincoln City will take them back into the top two.

All that comes after Sunderland missed the chance to move three points off the automatic promotion places when they were held to a 0-0 draw by Doncaster Rovers last night.

Stoke boss Michael O'Neil makes one changes from the 1-0 win at West Brom on Monday.

Tyrese Campbell, the goalscorer at The Hawthorns, signed a new contract in midweek but misses out through injury. Sam Vokes replaces him up front.

Stoke XI: Butland, Smith, Batth, Lindsay, Martins Indi, Allen (capt), Clucas, Ince, Powell, McClean, Vokes.

Substitutes: Davies, Collins, Ngoy, Thomspon, Cousins, Diouf, Gregory.

Swansea manager Steve Cooper makes two changes from the 2-1 home win over Wigan seven days ago.

Marc Guehi makes his debut in central defence after joining on loan from Chelsea, while Jake Bidwell starts at left-back.

Swansea XI: Woodman, Roberts, Cabango, Guehi, Bidwell, Grimes (capt), Byers, Gallagher, Ayew, Celina, Brewster.

Substitutes: Mulder, Wilmot, Rodon, Fulton, Dhanda, Routledge, Borja.

The sole Championship game of the day comes at the Bet365 Stadium.

Stoke City are four points clear of the relegation zone in 21st, and will be hoping to continue their good recent run and move further away from danger.

The Potters have taken 20 points from 13 league games under Michael O'Neill, having taken eight from their first 15 games of the campaign.

Two wins in their past three and unbeaten in four league games at home, Stoke will provide a stern test for a Swansea City side who are looking to move back into the play-off places.

The Welsh club were the early pace-setters in the Championship but their automatic promotion challenge faded in October and November.

However, Steve Cooper's side have lost only one of their past eight, putting them a point off the top six.
