Celtic could progress from a post-group stage knockout tie for the first time since 2004 if they can overcome Copenhagen at Celtic Park.

After the first-leg of the Europa League last 32 tie finished 1-1 in the Danish capital, Celtic hold the slight advantage for the return courtesy of the away goal.

"There's no formalities at this stage of the competition for anyone," says Celtic boss Neil Lennon. "The tie could psychologically switch either way. Hopefully we can score the first goal and get on the front foot, but we're going to have to earn the right to play.

"It's been fantastic so far, I want it to continue, I want us to be in the last 16. I think we're good enough to do that, but we're going to have to play well. Copenhagen are a dangerous team."

History is certainly not on Espanyol's side.

In Uefa Cup/Europa League history, there have been 221 occasions of a side losing a first leg by four or more goals.

In total, just two of these sides have progressed (FK Partizan v QPR in 1984-85 and Real Madrid v Borussia Monchengladbach in 1985-86).

Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo is saying the right things in the build up tonight's game, saying his side's 4-0 victory in the first leg "does not mean anything".

"This is a new game, a new challenge, so we have to compete well," Nuno said. "The approach is the same. It doesn't mean anything what we did before."

I mean, it certainly would be the comeback to complete all comebacks if Espanyol somehow overturn a four-goal deficit.

Personally I can't see it given just how in control Wolves were of that first leg game at Molineux, but stranger things have happened and it gives us the slightest hint of intrigue. At least until Wolves score and the tie will definitely be over.

This game is one of three involving Premier League sides tonight, with the other two ties not quite so cut and dry and this one.

Manchester United host Club Bruges at 8pm with the slight advantage after the two sides drew 1-1 i n Belgium last week, while Arsenal host Olympiakos at the same time with Mikel Arteta's side in driving seat after winning the first leg 2-1.

No surprises to see Nuno ring the changes with Wolves comfortably ahead in the tie. There's five in total as Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves, Raul Jimenez, Romain Saiss and Jonny all drop out.

Maximillian Killman, Ruben Viagre, Adama Traore and Morgan Gibbs-White come in, while Daniel Podence makes his first start for the club.

Espanyol make four changes from last week's game at Molineux with Adria Pedrosa, David Lopez, Sergi Darder and Jonathan Calleri all coming in.

Espanyol XI: Andres, Gomez, Calero, Naldo, Pedrosa, Melendo, Victor Sanchez, David Lopez, Darder, Vargas, Calleri. Subs: Pipa, Wu, Ferreyra, Diego Lopez, Cabrera, Embarba, Lozano.

After Tyson Fury's stunning win against Deontay Wilder at the weekend, boxing is clearly at the front of Abelardo Fernandez's mind.

The former Spain player has warned that his side could still deliver a shock knockout punch to Wolves, citing Buster Douglas' stunning win against Mike Tyson 30 years ago.

"I know England is crazy about boxing right now because of Tyson Fury," said Abelardo. "I love boxing and I saw the Tyson fight on TV. If this tie was a boxing match then obviously Wolves are probably 90 per cent favourites to go through.

"But I remember when Mike Tyson fought a complete underdog in Buster Douglas and got knocked out.

"Maybe we can be Buster Douglas and pull off a complete shock."

  8. Espanyol = Buster Douglas?published at 16:45 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2020

Are we about to waste the next couple of hours of our lives?

Wolves take on Espanyol this evening seemingly as good as in the hat for the Europa League last 16 after winning the first leg 4-0.

Tie over, right? Well Espanyol boss Abelardo Fernandez certainly doesn't think so and he is drawing inspiration from one of the biggest shocks the sport of boxing has ever seen....
