You know something big is coming for the entire first half of this song. The music slowly swells, the wind machines start to crank up and, let's face it, there's only so many times one man can stand on a stage repeating the words "you're not alone".

Then, around the two minute mark, it happens and this slightly dull ballad goes dubstep mad as Aram gets his full X-Factor sing-off 'please don't send me home' vibe on.

It's a fitting song for the goal with which it is paired - a pretty standard thumped-out hit. It finished fourth and beat Italy as well in 2014, which I can only imagine fuelled that 9-1 thumping in Euro qualifying. Take that, Aram.

ARMENIA v Italy (Euro 2020 qualifying)

    Armenia

A classic big hit. Bayaban cuts inside on to his right foot and unleashes a rising drive that finds the top corner. Bang.

To say this was the highlight of this game for Armenia is an understatement. They lost it 9-1. But what a 1.

Sadly, Edgar and Armenia come bottom of our second semi.

Bulgaria are in the Euros play-offs, meaning that their place at the finals hangs in the balance. Their place in Eurovision infamy is well and truly secure.

In the 2009 contest the proof was there for all to hear that Krassimir Avramov was to singing what Yordan Letchkov was to full heads of hair.

His sustained falsetto created a wailing, the likes of which would not be heard again from a Bulgarian until Alex Ferguson asked Dimitar Berbatov to track back.

When Bulgaria went out in the semis at the 1994 World Cup, it was seen as the peak for their national side. When Bulgaria went out in the semis at Eurovision 2009 it was seen as the nadir for their national singing.

Some Eurovision acts manage to forge a decent career for themselves, while others, like this total unknown fade away into obscurity never to be heard of again. I imagine poor Celine is probably on some cruise liner now, belting out It's Raining Men with a solitary tear trickling down her cheek. Ah, jokes.

It really is strange seeing someone so monumentally famous and who reached such heights rocking up on Eurovision without any idea that very soon they won't be able to go to the shops without being mobbed.

It goes without saying that Celine has a serious set of pipes on her and she absolutely belts this out. Thankfully, the stylists will get hold of her and rescue her from this 'just been picked up from an upsetting school prom by my mum' look.

Celine won it in 1988 by a single point, denying the UK's very own Scott Fitzgerald. Sliding doors, Scott, sliding doors.

    SWITZERLAND v Poland (Euro 2016)

    Switzerland

How could we not include this scissor-kick from Liverpool's enigmatic forward? And how could you not vote in big numbers for it?

You can see what he has in mind from the moment the ball loops up in the air in his vicinity. To think it is one thing, but to pull it off another. Goal of the tournament at Euro 2016 and a deserved one. Jonathan Pearce clearly enjoyed it, too.

Having flopped harder than Ashley Young in an opponents' penalty area the previous year, the UK pulled out the big guns in 2011, turning to the Wetherspoons Westlife, chart sensations Blue, who hadn't had a UK top 10 single since *checks notes* 2004.

Systems up, top down, city firmly on lockdown, the boys give it everything they've got, belting out I Can in front of four big screens that at one stage show head shots of them looking like escaped replicants from Bladerunner.

They managed a decent 11th place (still yet to be bested by a UK act since) but the song commits the biggest crime of any Eurovision entry by being too blandly normal.

    I rest my case.

  10. Marcus Rashfordpublished at 2nd in semi-final one

ENGLAND v Bulgaria (Euro 2020 qualfying)

    United Kingdom

    "Pick that out."

Pick that out indeed. Manchester United's Marcus Rashford is our England representative on this list, for his little flick and cracking hit from a tight angle.

There is an air of Kanu against Chelsea about it (albeit from a slightly more generous position near the byine). He drives down the left, drags the ball back to throw a defender off the scent and then lashes a shot over the keeper and in.

It was the first of six unanswered goals England scored in Bulgaria in a Euro 2020 qualifier that was appallingly stopped twice as a result of racist abuse aimed towards players.

Most Eurovision songs express the need for unity; for humanity to come together as one and do away with the ills of society to forge a better, purer, more positive way of being. But the leader singer of Twin Twin just really wants a moustache.

I don't know if anyone has ever sat him down and explained that he could achieve his life's goal simply by not shaving, but after listening to him for three minutes you cannot deny that this is a man with a goal.

Dressed like it's a Mad Max style apocalyptic future in which hipsters battle each other for the last remaining hummus, Twin Twin do have one thing going for them. To English ears, the French language is even able to make lyrics like "there is leather in my car, the smell of my perfume reassures me" sound sexy and as opposed to deeply, deeply disturbing.

The song finished last in 2014, receiving just two points, presumably from sympathetic fellow bare upper-lippers.

  13. Antoine Griezmannpublished at 3rd in semi-final one

FRANCE v Moldova (Euro 2020 qualifying)

    France

Antoine Griezmann is some player, as he illustrates with this goal, the move building up to which he starts and emphatically finishes.

Cutting in from the right he evades two half-hearted challenges and lays the ball off to Pogba before charging into the box unmarked to receive a return chipped pass and volley in.

As Griezmann wheels away in celebration, the Moldovan defence are left to ponder which of them was meant to have followed him.

France would go on to win the Euro 2020 qualifier 4-1.

Griezmann also sails into our final.

It's peppy, it's poppy, it's one of those songs that falls out of your head line by line as it's being sung.

Lena's slightly OTT love song (sample lyric: I went everywhere for you, I even did my hair for you, I bought new underwear, they're blue, and I wore 'em just the other day - play it cool, Lena!) not only won Eurovision in 2010 but became an inexplicable bonafide hit.

You know she has her eyes on the prize with the simple staging, eschewing anything camp for a single spotlight and a group of backing singers. Where's your ice skater? Where's the backflipping clown? And no rock zombies? Really?

  16. Serge Gnabrypublished at 4th in semi-final one

GERMANY v Netherlands (Euro 2020 qualifying)

    Germany

When Serge Gnabry picks the ball up on the left there is only a hint of danger. After all, there are plenty of players between him and the goal, including the world's best defender Virgil van Dijk.

Seconds later, following a few twists, turns and one belting finish into the top corner, Gnabry and celebrating and the Netherlands left to wonder what just happened.

The goal helped Germany to a 3-2 win at the start of their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign, at the home of their toughest rivals in the group.

I think it might be physically impossible not to at least smile a bit when you hear Waterloo. It is simply top-drawer pop music and unsurprisingly it blew the competition away in 1974. Frankly, nobody else stood a chance.

Even the Eurovision orchestra composer - the brilliantly named Sven-Olaf Walldoff - gets swept up in the glory of it all, dressing like Napoleon to perform his duties.

It's excellent to listen to the host introduce ABBA as a group of relative unknowns, unaware that they're about to become one of the biggest bands in the world. The best song ever to appear in Eurovision? Yeah, this or Jemini.

  19. Viktor Claessonpublished at 5th in semi-final one

SWEDEN v Malta (Euro 2020 qualifying)

    Sweden

Joining Hazard in the final is this goal from Sweden's Viktor Claesson.

Claesson is taking the glory here but really it should be going to team-mate Marcus Berg. Don't get me wrong, the finish is absolutely fine - a deft little poke to put the ball past the keeper - but the real stellar moment is Berg's backheel flick to set it up.

The goal was the middle one of three that the Swedes put past Malta in this Euro 2020 qualifying win.
