  1. Football theatrics from Hornepublished at 72 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

Some shoving going on and that isn't very friendly in a friendly.

Kevin Ratcliffe fouls Joao Paulo and then shoves him when he's already on the floor, so Careca is quick to return the shrug.

Barry Horne is then hit in the shins by ball and goes down as if he's just been punched in the face and this is all getting a bit silly. One for those who think theatrics on the football field is a 21st century problem.

  2. Postpublished at 71 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

Wow, what a first significant contribution from substitute Mark Bowen,

Colin Pascoe lost possession and Joao Paulo slalomed his way into the Wales penalty area and freed Carera who had a free run at goal, but Bowen slid-in brilliantly to deny him.

The tackle was inch perfect and needed to be or it would have been a penalty kick.

  4. Pembridge’s secret weaponpublished at 69 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

This has been a fine debut from Mark Pembridge, and in an unusual role for a player we would come to recognise as a midfielder.

The Luton Town youngster was playing as a right wing-back on this occasion, and it seemed to work in his favour as he played a big role in Dean Saunders’ goal.

Perhaps Brazil had not done their research on Pembridge and didn’t know he was in fact left-footed?

Whatever the reason, the visitors allowed him to cut inside on to his favoured side and deliver the cross which led to the goal.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 67 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

Norwch City's Mark Bowen replaces Paul Bodin.

  6. CLOSE!published at 66 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

Another near miss for Wales as Colin Pascoe's searching diagonal ball is pinpoint and allows Dean Saunders to collect and easily slip away from Cleber, but his cross is just too far away from Mark Hughes and Claudio Taffarel is able to gather.

The crowd are loving this as Wales take the game to Brazil.

  7. Postpublished at 65 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

Good enterprise by Colin Pascoe who hits the byline, but Claudiio Taffarel is able to claim the cross.

  9. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 64 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

A soft penalty appeal for Brazil after Careca looks to twist away from Mark Aizlewood.

The Bristol City defender then almost dismisses the appeal himself by heaving the Napoli striker off the floor, which the crowd enjoyed.

Careca has been quiet tonight, certainly not as prolific looking as he is with his partner in crime at club level, Gianfranco Zola.

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 62 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

Wales were not allowed to take that corner quickly as Brazil are trying to make substitutions.

The highly-touted Cafu goes off and is replaced by Cassio and Valdeir finally takes his place after Moacir's injury.

  11. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 62 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

Wales take a corner and work the ball to cross, but just before they do the whistle is blown, as neither the referee, nor the nonchalant Brazilians, were ready.

Colin Pascoe heads home and probably for a split second thinks he has scored against Brazil, but it is not to be.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 60 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

Wales are ahead and Brazil are forced to make a change as Moacir limps out of international football forever. He will be replaced by Valdir who you will also never again see representing Brazil after tonight, but the stand-in isn't quite ready yet.

  13. Postpublished at 60 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

This time Claudio Taffarel helps his side as he's out sharply to blast clear as Dean Saunders looked to latch onto another one of those pinpoint balls over the top from Paul Bodin. He's now caught out Germany and Brazil with the same pass.

  14. Saunders into double figurespublished at 60 mins

    Wales 1-0 Brazil

The broad grin on Dean Saunders’ face tells you what it means for him to score for his country, and this was just one of many.

This was the Liverpool forward’s 10th goal for Wales, and he would go on to finish his international career with 22 from 75 appearances.

That means Saunders remains fifth on Wales’ all-time list of goalscorers.

GOAL - Wales 1-0 Brazilpublished at 59 mins

    Dean Saunders

    Media caption,

Dean Saunders gives Wales the lead against Brazil

Wales lead the three-time world champions!

It's hardly a classic goal in what has hardly been a classic game, but Wales won't care a jot as Dean Saunders fires them ahead after a goalkeeping calamity from Claudio Taffarel.

He flapped at Mark Pembridge's deep cross aimed at Gary Speed, coming to collect and getting nowhere near the ball, with Saunders, the grateful recipient able to slot home into the empty net.

    Wales are beating Brazil.

  16. Postpublished at 58 mins

    Wales 0-0 Brazil

Nice build-up play from Wales but Brazil are just able to clear as Dean Saunders looked to find Colin Pascoe in the box.

  17. Postpublished at 56 mins

    Wales 0-0 Brazil

Wales are now 22-32 behind in the battle of possession minutes. That definitely meaningful stat that is definitely here to stay.

  18. Postpublished at 55 mins

    Wales 0-0 Brazil

Bebeto finally wriggles free and puts in a nice cross with the outside of his boot, but Wales snuff out the danger.

  19. Cafu: legend in the makingpublished at 52 mins

    Wales 0-0 Brazil

Gary Speed is having an excellent game on Wales’ left flank, and it’s all the more impressive when you consider he’s up against the man who many regard as the greatest right-back of all time.

Just 21 at the time, Cafu had only made his debut for Brazil the previous September but the then-Sao Paulo player was already showing signs that he would become something special.

Marauding in attack and a determined competitor in defence, Cafu patrolled his side of the pitch like few others.

He would go on to win the 1994 World Cup and captain Brazil to another World Cup triumph in 2002, and he was a serial winner at club level too, with two Serie A titles, a Champions League and a Club World Cup among his long list of honours.
