I don't know about anyone else but I'm really looking forward to 'Rhian Brewster' being the answer to the pub quiz question 'who scored the final goal at Griffin Park?' in a few years' time.

    Swansea boss Steve Cooper adds:

"We're not going to lose sight of the fact we are building for the future but, when you get so close, you're disappointed.

"It's part of the journey, it's just a painful one tonight."

  5. 'It's painful' - Cooperpublished at 22:28 British Summer Time 29 July 2020

FT: Brentford 3-1 Swansea (3-2 agg)

Swansea boss Steve Cooper tells Sky Sports:

"We just gave ourselves too much to do, with the goals we gave away. You can't do that in any game, but especially not against these guys.

"The lads didn't give up and we gave ourselves a lifeline, but we can defend so much better.

"It's painful at the moment. We're not going to lose sight of the fact we're building for the future, but when you get some close you're just disappointed."

FT: Brentford 3-1 Swansea (3-2 agg)

Brentford head coach Thomas Frank adds:

"We were just so on it. I honestly think we should've won 3-0 or 4-0, then of course we make the mistake, which is football - and why we love it.

"I said after training yesterday that we wouldn't leave this pitch until we're in the final.

"I felt we were the better team and thought we had that irritated feeling in our bodies."

A delighted Brentford head coach Thomas Frank tells Sky Sports:

"I'd like to thank the fans, they've been fantastic.

"This morning I got a video which the fans had put together for us. We sent it in the players' WhatsApp group and I asked them to look at it.

"Of course, you play for your families, for the club, but you also play for the fans. And if you see that you'll see how much it means to them."

Brentford defender Pontus Jansson tells Sky Sports:

"I said in the dressing I've been waiting for this game for more or less one year (after losing to Derby in the play-off semi-finals as a Leeds player in 2019-20).

"I had a good feeling in my stomach but I was also a bit nervous because I know how much it hurts to lose a game like this.

"We knew if we had a good start it would be tough for them."

    Brentford striker Ollie Watkins continues:

"What a game it would've been for the fans to watch, although I'm sure it's not bad watching on the TV at home sitting with a beer.

"It'll be sad not playing at this place again but we went to the new stadium the other day and it looks unbelievable. I can't wait to play there."

This time last week, Swansea were jubilant after pulling off an astonishing final-day feat to pip Nottingham Forest to the final play-off spot. It showed incredible spirit.

The mood in their camp will be totally contrasting now. A week can be a very, very long time in football.

Ollie Watkins adds to Sky Sports:

"We've come a long way. We came out of lockdown unbelievably, the best team I think, but then we lost the two last games.

"It was important we regrouped and got another bite of the cherry. Tonight we worked hard and I think we deserved it.

"Emotionally it's draining losing when we'd been on such a good run. We focused on the job at hand and did what we needed to."

For me, Ollie Watkins' performance tonight was on a level befitting of a striker playing for at least a mid-table Premier League team, if not higher. He ran tirelessly, but with intelligent movement. He tracked back for his team, he battled. He showed great skill, strength and intelligence. He's an excellent footballer.

Brentford striker Ollie Watkins tells Sky Sports:

"I'm over the moon. We've had a tough few last games of the season and it hurts a little bit but we bounced back tonight.

"We came off the pitch angry and ready to go again. We started the game well tonight and we deserved it. We could easily have punished them a little bit more tonight."

FT: Brentford 3-1 Swansea (3-2 agg)

And what a terrific game it was. We've seen some outstanding Championship play-off semi-finals over the years. This won't go down as THE greatest or join the list of the absolute classics, but it's certainly up there among the best. Four goals and we could have seen several more. Tremendous for a neutral.

  20. FT: Brentford 3-1 Swansea (3-2 agg)published at 21:46 British Summer Time 29 July 2020

Brentford have done it, in their final game at Griffin Park. They've come from 1-0 down from the first leg to keep their promotion dream alive.

It's an amazing end to 116 years of history at this stadium.

Swansea, meanwhile, are distraught. They're on the ground. Rhian Brewster is on his knees, head in hands.
