    Atalanta v Paris St-Germain (20:00 BST)

Paris St-Germain have won seven league titles in the eight full season since their takeover. They have won the French treble on five of this occasions.

But in the Champions League it has not been so straightforward.

They qualified for four quarter-finals in a row but seemed to go backwards with three last-16 eliminations before this season.

    Atalanta v Paris St-Germain (20:00 BST)

Neymar has not had the most luck in the Champions League since joining Paris St-Germain.

The most expensive transfer of all time has been sidelined during their last-16 elimination in his first two seasons at the club.

But he is fit and available now after missing the first four games of this season's group stage.

"He likes the big matches and he likes decisive matches," said boss Thomas Tuchel.

"He's a player you can trust in the big matches. I'm absolutely convinced he will put on a big performance and that he holds the keys for us, he has the mentality for situations like this."

Atalanta looked doomed after losing their first three games and picking up one point in their fourth.

But they beat Dinamo Zagreb 2-0 and Shakhtar Donetsk 3-0 to become the first side to qualify for the next round after losing their opening three matches since Newcastle United in 2002-03.

They beat Valencia 8-4 on aggregate in the last 16.

Paris St-Germain cruised through a group stage with Real Madrid, winning five and drawing one of their six games - and only conceding twice.

They edged past Borussia Dortmund 3-2 on aggregate after losing the first leg in the previous round.

I'm an Arsenal fan but the playing style of this City team (and Guardiola teams In general) makes them really attractive to watch, added to them being the last English team standing, means I'll be rooting for them.

  5. Silva's farewell?published at 19:40 British Summer Time 12 August 2020

Paris St-Germain club captain Thiago Silva will leave the club as soon as their Champions League campaign comes to an end.

The 35-year-old Brazilian defender has played 312 times for the club. This is his 58th European appearance for PSG - a joint club record.

"I hope to end the adventure by winning the Champions League, that's the dream," he said.

Edinson Cavani - the club's all-time top scorer with 200 goals - had also been due to stay until the end of the Champions League - but it turns out he has already left the club.

  7. 'We have a big responsibility to not disappoint'published at 19:34 British Summer Time 12 August 2020

    Atalanta v Paris St-Germain (20:00 BST)

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini: "We've shown that a team without a particular European pedigree can do well, with values like will-power, motivation, enthusiasm.

"I think people like this a lot. We have a big responsibility to not disappoint – not with the result but in terms of these values.

"Neymar is one of the best players in the world, so he would be a problem for any team who faced him. I think the best way to defend against him is to play well ourselves, with everyone focused."

Ellie Di Fiore: Atalanta remind me Steaua’s route to the final vs Barcelona. Steaua's only European Cup triumph and the first of only two won by an Eastern European club. I would love Atalanta to win the competition this year. (My surname’s a massive hint that I may not a neutral!)

  11. 'You are very welcome to Portugal'published at 19:27 British Summer Time 12 August 2020

Portugal's Prime Minister Antonio Costa says football fans are welcome to the country for the Champions League knockout stages -even though they cannot go to games.

Two stadiums in Lisbon will host the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final - all held being closed doors and over one leg.

“Whoever wants to come, be it for the tournament, to spend their holidays, or for any other reason, you are very welcome to Portugal and you can be yourself in Portugal safely”, Costa said in a statement.

"It is a great honour for us to be able to host this event. It is a form of recognition by Uefa as the safest place to host this competition.”

    Spanish football journalist in Lisbon

It is strange. There is hardly anyone around. When you cross paths with a journalist, it is like finding a long-lost friend. No atmosphere, no advertisements.

There is no sense there is something big happening here – not even in the newspapers. No-one has made the trip.

I got a pass but I cannot access the stadium. It is the way Uefa is trying to make the place safe.

Football is a game of emotion. You are taking the emotions without the fans, why are we playing?

Mixed views on text and Twitter about whether English fans should want Manchester City to do well (19:12)...

Andrew Lockett: I usually support the English team - not so fussed about City. The money they've spent they should be winning the domestic treble, the CL, Wimbledon, The F1 season and America's Cup.

Francesca Gunn: Ollie I’m a man united fan so there is no way I’m supporting city. Bayern all the way

Gian Piero Gasperini said the suffering in Atalanta's home city of Bergamo following the coronavirus outbreak provides "extra motivation" for his side.

"We know the level of expectation that there is around this match, and how much passion there is for Atalanta in Bergamo and the surrounding province," said Gasperini.

"There is extra motivation for us after what has happened. We have to represent our city in the best possible way and give the people something to smile about."

Bergamo, near Milan in northern Italy, was one of the worst hit regions in Italy when the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak there earlier this year.

  15. Atalanta's recent risepublished at 19:16 British Summer Time 12 August 2020

    Atalanta v Paris St-Germain (20:00 BST)

Atalanta have only won one major competition in their 112-year history - the 1963 Italian Cup.

But they have flourished since Gian Piero Gasperini took over in 2016.

They have finished third in Serie A for the past two seasons as the top scorers in the league both times.

Their tally of 98 Serie A goals this season is more than any other team have managed since the 1950s.

And they have done that despite not spending much money by modern football terms.

Perennial French champions Paris St-Germain have not reached the semi-finals of the Champions League since the Qatari takeover of the club in 2011.

They have fallen short every year despite throwing huge sums of money around on star players like Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel di Maria. Sometimes in comical fashion.

Atalanta are arguably the most entertaining team in Europe with 115 goals in all competitions this season.

They have done that despite not having any household names (excluding to followers of Italian football).

Their record signing is reportedly Luis Muriel for €18m.
