Barcelona are unbeaten in 22 La Liga games against Espanyol. They also have the same run going against Villarreal.
The last time Espanyol were relegated from La Liga was 1992-93. They were promoted again the following season.
This is their sixth consecutive La Liga defeat, a joint club record.
