    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

The hosts look like they have gone to a conventional 4-4-2 formation.

So they will have two up against Barca's three-man defence. The big question is how they stop this man?

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

A few changes worth a mention as we start the second half.

Luis Suarez replaces Antoine Griezmann for Barcelona, while the hosts have replaced a midfielder Ruben Alcaraz with forward Enes Unal and Joaquin Fernandez with Pablo Hervias.

Another Lionel Messi gem from our friends at Opta.

The 33-year-old is apparently the second player to score 20 goals (22) and provide 20 assists in a single season in the top 5 European Leagues in the 21st century after Thierry Henry (24 goals and 20 assists in 2002/03 for Arsenal).

    HT: Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

A couple of draws since La Liga's restart has seen the reigning champions Barcelona lose top spot to Real Madrid.

Not only that, Quique Setien's side sit four points adrift of their great rivals.

A win tonight could reduce the gap to a single point. However, they will have played a game more than Real who have Granada, Villarreal and Leganes still to play.

In other words, Barca need a bit of help. And they won't want to lose another lead, as they did in those draws with Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo.

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

Pretty comfortable going for Barca so far.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 45 mins

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

Ruben Alcaraz goes in the book after taking out Arturo Vidal. The Barcelona midfielder felt that one.

The Valladolid midfielder is the second player to go in the book, with Barcelona's French defender Clement Lenglet carded a few minutes back.

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

That Lionel Messi assist earlier takes him to 20 in La Liga this term. He's the first player to hit that figure in a season since his former teammate Xavi did it 2008-09.

  8. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

Just watched that Kike Perez chance again. It was a sitter.

The Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen couldn't help but giggle as he got up from diving on the ball.

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

Surprise, surprise, Barca are on the attack again and Lionel Messi is prompting and probing.

He can't pick anyone out so goes it alone but his deflected shot goes just wide of the left post.

    What. A. Chance.

An up and under from the hosts sees Kike Perez leave Gerard Pique for dust and run through on goal.

But he panics with Barca keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to beat and stumbles over the ball. Should be burying that.

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

Valladolid coach Sergio Gonzalez is barking out instructions to his players during the water break.

Looks like one or two of them could do with a pep talk. It's been a difficult half so far for the hosts.

  12. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

Quique Setien looks pretty cool in his jeans and t-shirt on the Barca bench and no wonder. His side are bossing this as we head towards a drinks break.

Decent effort from Sergi Roberto that. Equally steady save from Jordi Masip in the home goal.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 23 mins

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

This is a blow for Valladolid but maybe not for Raul Garcia who has been overworked in the early stages.

The left back is hobbling off with what looks like a muscle injury. Nacho replaces him.

  15. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

Now then this is better from the hosts.

Sergi Guardiola gets down the right and whips in a cross which Gerard Pique does well to head away.

The Valladolid forward then goes a touch ambitious, with a low shot from an angle about 20-yards out and hits the side netting.

You'd be doing well to score from there.

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

    How did he miss?

Nelson Semedo makes another charging run down the right and plays a low cross into the Valladolid box.

Antoine Griezmann is completely unmarked six yards out but he makes a right hash of that. Not sure the France forward knew which foot to take it with.

    That really should be 2-0.

  17. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Real Valladolid 0-1 Barcelona

Real Valladolid have lost 11 of their last 12 La Liga games against Barcelona but they have a chance to get the ball into the mixer here.

Well they did. Ruben Alcaraz decides to try and smash a shot through the Barca wall and Quique Setien's side whip it away to safety.

    Not long.

Lionel Messi and Nelson Semedo are involved down the right before the Argentine slips a little pass down the side of the home defence for Arturo Vidal.

Great finish from the Chile midfielder who lashes a low shot into the far corner.

  19. Postpublished at 12 mins

All Barca. Just wondering how long the hosts can hold out here.

  20. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Real Valladolid 0-0 Barcelona

Barcelona's head coach Quique Setien is briefly out of his seat as Antoine Griezmann bears down on goal but the French forward loses momentum while looking to pick out Lionel Messi.

    Chance gone.
