  1. 'The players have done a brilliant job'published at 18:33 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes, speaking to BBC Sport: "We didn't play so well today but if you put it in perspective the players have done a brilliant job. Today was a bit of a chance to play. But we were playing against an opponent with a lot to play for. A draw is about fair.

"We are trying to get a young, fresh group of players and they have done really well for us. Today is another experience for them. Every game in football matters. The standards they have set since lockdown have been really good.

"The summer is just about over. We are all hoping for a couple of weeks away but it will be a quick turnaround. We have spent a lot in the last couple of years so I don't think we will spend at the level we have in the past. They spent £200m not so long ago, into the team. There is a lot of expectation at West Ham."

  2. 'Danny was not egotistical'published at 18:31 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Southampton 1-3 Sheffield United

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl told BBC Sport: "I saw a team in the second half that is really showing how every part of their game is developing. We had strong offensive moments, and solutions against these teams is not easy, but we deserved this win today.

"It is important for him [Che Adams] and for us. I was very happy fro all the guys playing up front. Danny [Ings] was looking for the pass and was not egotistical and Che is the one that has scored.

"We now have a short pre-season and then hopefully we can build on the performances we have made in these last few games."

  3. 'Boys played an incredible game'published at 18:29 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Newcastle 1-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "The boys played an incredible game, not a perfect game. Like you say in this country a dead rubber.

"I didn't like the goal we conceded but it helped to make clear [what they faced]. We made so many changes after a long time of playing with similar line-ups. It's not fair on their judgement because they need to get used to their game.

"We really worked in the game and got better and better and better even before the changes. But the changes helped massively. I liked the game. It's far away from being perfect but over the season we did not just win games when everything was perfect, we won a lot of difficult games too.

"I'm not going to the office for a while. I will be together with my family, that's all I need. Two weeks and a couple of days and we start again. It will be especially difficult next season - four weeks shorter [break]. We will use that and go again."

  4. 'I love them and I am going to miss all of them'published at 18:28 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Man City 5-0 Norwich

    Manchester City

David Silva talking to BBC Sport about the send-off he got from his team-mates and coaching staff after his final Premier League appearance for Manchester City: “It was emotional because they are amazing people, I have been working for them for 10 years and I have a good relationship with them. I love them and I am going to miss all of them."

Are you proud of your Premier League career? “Of course. To win so many titles and the way we won it. I am a lucky guy, I have had lot of nice moments, and this one as well, the last one. I will miss everything – even the weather as well.”

On City’s Champions League hopes this season? “I hope we can win the Champions League, it is a pity we have to play with no people but the safety of the people is the most important thing."

  5. 'We must be grateful to Baines'published at 18:28 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti: "It is a performance that we could expect, it was the last game of the season and the motivation was not so strong. We are not happy, but we have to look forward. The players need rest, it was a busy season and we will come back with more ambition.

"Sometimes the motivation makes the difference on the pitch. Moise Kean did well, he is young and has to improve but it is important that he could score.

"We have to be focused, we have time to prepare for the next season. We will work hard to improve the squad. The idea is clear.

"Leighton Baines has taken this decision to stop playing, every Evertonian must be grateful to him, he is a fantastic example and had a great career.

"We want to keep him at the club, his knowledge is really important."

  6. 'Smallest standing ovation'published at 18:27 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Man City 5-0 Norwich

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola just reflected on the standing ovation given to David Silva by all the Blues bench and even the media after the midfielder's substitution in his final Premier League game at the Etihad Stadium today.

"It was the smallest standing ovation of all time," said Guardiola.

"He will come back for the one he deserves.

"The players showed the gratitude that has to happen for these incredible years. We just wanted to thank him."

  7. 'If it is my time to go, it is my time to go'published at 18:26 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Arsenal 3-2 Watford

    Watford

Watford striker Troy Deeney talking to Sky Sports: "This is a reflection of the whole year. Not quite been good enough. Heartbreaking for the people who work behind the scenes and we feel sorry for them.

"I will take the stick on social media but the harsh reality is people will lose their jobs because we haven't been good enough.

"As a club and as a community we will go again. Ultimately we have not been good enough, no point dancing around it.

"The whole top to bottom will do an audit and reassess. It is not just us. It is part and parcel of football.

"We can't say we got it right because we failed. The bigger thing for fans and people at clubs because they will be here longer than players. They will be hurt and annoyed. I don't know if this will be my last game for Watford. You front it.

"I will be having a knee operation next week. Clubs can can go in different directions and players can. If that is my last game, I am happy I went out on my shield. I am a simple man. Did I go out and do everything I could, yes, was it good enough? No.

"Things happen in football. I have been here 10 years, if it is my time to go, it is my time to go."

  8. 'Sad, painful feeling in my heart'published at 18:24 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Everton 1-3 Bournemouth

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "We were excellent today, the frustrating thing when you see us play like that and you wonder where it was throughout the season.

"Difficult to describe, it’s a sad painful feeling for me in my heart. It’s difficult when you feel like you’ve let people down, it’s difficult when you can’t feed off people with no supporters being here and you can’t get their support.

"Over a 38-game period we haven’t been good enough, I’m not going to sit here and complain about how other teams got their points. When you see how we played today that is a side that should have got more than 38 points.

"I need to sit down with the people at Bournemouth and see what we do next.

"My commitment to the club is not in question. I’ve loved being here since I joined the club. I’ve loved playing for the club. It isn’t time for grand statements but we need to settle down and get this decision right."

  9. 'Serious work to do next season'published at 18:22 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa

    Chris Sutton
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

The pressure on Dean Smith coming in to these last few weeks was so intense, you need to go back to the start of the season and see the amount of money that Villa had spent. I had sympathy with Dean Smith as they came from absolutely nowhere and the squad needed a huge overhaul.

Dean Smith loves the club and Jack Grealish does, it’s a wonderful story for romantics everywhere. There is massive surgery required at Villa for next season, you look at the strength in depth that Villa have and they don’t have it.

They need serious work in the transfer window to make them stronger, Dean Smith will enjoy tonight but there is big work to do next season.

  10. "It is nice to have it with Thierry"published at 18:20 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Man City 5-0 Norwich

    Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne on equalling Thierry Henry's record for 20 assists in a single Premier League season: "I have got two more – you guys took two away from me that I am still claiming so for me I was already above (Thierry).

"It is what it is. I need my team-mates, obviously I am creating for them to score, and I am grateful when they do. It is nice to have (the record) and it is nice to have it with Thierry."

  11. 'All credit to Dean Smith'published at 18:20 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

FT: West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa

    Garth Crooks
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker on Final Score

When Aston Villa lost to Wolves and they had all those back-to-back games, Dean Smith was irritated. Somehow, he's got past it, put his team together and set his team up in a way where they've been difficult to beat so all credit to him.

  12. 'Southampton were ruthless in our box'published at 18:19 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Southampton 3-1 Sheffield United

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told BBC Sport: "We should have been comfortably up in the game but we have missed some golden chances. They were ruthless in our box and we weren't in theirs. In the last 25 minutes, they were comfortably the better side but the game should have been out of sight.

"We have lost a game of football and that is the feeling I have. We have to up our game in the summer and we had run our race. It looked like a second half too far for the players. We have finished ninth against some really good teams which we can proud of but we wanted to finish on a high.

"We have to recruit right and we have to invest, there will be some players that are going and they will all have to raise their levels again. First season back in the Premier League for a long time and our long suffering supporters would have enjoyed it. Southampton have finished below us and they have some fantastic footballers which shows how tough a challenge it is."

  13. Postpublished at 18:19 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, speaking to BBC Sport: "I'm pleased, proud and every adjective to go with it. A lot of people had us relegated but we have worked so hard. We used the pandemic well. We have looked strong. A lot has been made of what we spent but we had to. I would have said this if we had been relegated or stayed up. It is an achievement from the players. They have grown and become Premier League players. We need to build on that and recruit in the summer.

"We did a lot of work on how we wanted to defend. Douglas Luiz's form has gone through the roof. It was always going to be hard for him playing catch up as he came in with days to go until the season started."

On the two sides who have gone down: "Condolences to Watford and Bournemouth. I can only imagine how they feel now. Eddie is a fantastic manager and a great coach. It had to be two out of three. But I am proud of what we have done. We were aware of what was going on. Bournemouth did what they had to do and so did we."

On Jack Grealish: "I said to him he would come to the party and score. He has been getting better and better. He has come good when he needed to. It (his future) will all be sorted over the next month. Tonight we will enjoy a magnificent achievement. It feels better than when we went up through the play-offs."

On staying up: "In pre-season we sat down and came up with three words that we wanted to work by - togetherness, prepared and relentless. We have grown into that. It takes a long time to build a culture and I think we have started."

  15. 'Incredibly painful'published at 18:18 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Bournemouth relegated

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe to MOTD: "It's incredibly painful, we always believed we were capable of a last-minute escape. We had the scofes on the scoreboard here so it was teased in our face but that's the best we've played in a long, long time.

"When it went 3-1, our focus was glued to the West Ham score. We needed it to fall for us but ultimately you look at the points we've not got during the season that we should have got.

"Collectively over the piece we haven't been good enough, the table doesn't lie, it tells the story. We've dipped below the levels of previous seasons, there's no denying that.

"I have to take this on my shoulders and I've no issues with that. It's how you respond to the setback, at the moment it's too difficult to see that.

"The fans have been so good with me, I feel desperately for them. Our supporters have always been brilliant home and away and they have made the diffference for us down the years. We missed them, it took us a while to get going after lockdown and that slow start has cost us."

Robert Moss: What happened to Leicester, almost like they gave up on the season. Didn't deserve champions league football.

Clairh81: Gutted for Bournemouth. I think Eddie Howe is doing great things and feel he could well manage a premier league team again.

dakporticpower: Ole should be praised for this wonderful run. To be out of the top 4 for so long and end up finishing 3rd is an incredible achievement. If he had finished outside the top 4, he would have been lambasted, so give him his due praise.

  18. 'Wanted to show why we're champions'published at 18:13 British Summer Time 26 July 2020

    Newcastle 1-3 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk: "It was not too difficult [to motivate ourselves]. We all wanted to show why we're the champions. We knew it would be tough. We made it even more difficult for ourselves but we played well in the second half. It's good to finish the season on a high and now for a little break.

"It was an outstanding game in the second half. We played amazing football, and created chances. A well deserved win. Hopefully we'll be fresh and ready to go for next season in a couple of weeks.

"For this beautiful club it's [their season] outstanding and should spur us to retain the title. It will be tough. Teams will improve and they'll want to beat us more. We'll focus on each game at a time as we did this season. It will be a new challenge."

Shane Daly: How United finished 3rd is beyond me but I'm delighted. Jose won't get any praise for what he has done to get spurs to 6th but he deserves a lot of credit.

Villa definitely got lucky since lockdown. Sheffield United's goal disallowed and last 3 fixtures against teams who weren't really interested. In the same time Bouremouth had at least 4 goals chalked off by marginal VAR decisions.
