Rangers failed to maintain their 100% start to the season after today's 0-0 draw at Livingston and manager Steven Gerrard is disappointed with his side in the final third.

"We kept getting into the right areas of the pitch, but we just lacked that bit of quality in the final third," Gerrard tells Sky Sports.

"The reality is we didn’t test their keeper enough in the first 45 minutes considering it was his debut.

"It was too little too late. We pushed hard in the last 15 to 20 minutes.

"As a team, we know what we are doing by now, so we’ve got ourselves to blame in terms for not having the answers today in the final third."

The table shows Rangers returning to the top of the table on goal difference ahead of Hibs, but manager Steven Gerrard will know they missed a chance to go further ahead.

For Livingston, a second point of the season doesn't lift them out of third bottom spot but will give them confidence after a shaky start to the season.

Livingston head coach Gary Holt also confirms the news that the club have accepted a bid from an English Championship club for Lyndon Dykes.

"It’s now up to the big man to go and decide and negotiate his side of it," Holt tells BBC Radio Scotland.

"He goes with the good grace of the club. We’re buzzing for the big man. He’s embraced how we work. Every single one of us are over the moon for him."

On his side's gutsy performance to secure a point against Rangers, Holt says: "You need your keeper to be on top of his game and everyone to a man were excellent."

Debutant Max Stryjek made a great save to deny Borna Barisic.

"I don’t know how he managed to get to it," Holt adds. "I'm thankful we've got to excellent young goalkeepers pushing each other."

  9. New transfer record for Livingstonpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

Livingston head of football operations David Martindale says of Lyndon Dykes, who appears to be on his way to QPR: "Lyndon has been a massive part of our success over the last 12 months and he will be sorely missed both on and off the park.

“As a club, it’s also a great acknowledgement of the work going on to help develop players that Lyndon’s transfer fee will break the current club record previously held by the sale of David Fernandez to Celtic FC back in 2002. Further details on that side of things will be released in due course.

“Without a shadow of a doubt, all of our jobs just got that little bit harder at the club, but this was an opportunity for Lyndon to go and compete in one of the biggest leagues in Europe. It has also given Livingston FC a bit of added financial stability that is more than welcome given the current climate."

The money Rangers have spent on Kent, Hagi, Itten and Roofe, that's a lot of millions in attacking prowess and none of them could score against Livingston today

"They had a lot of the ball, but we stuck to our game plan and the clean sheet is massive for us.

"We could have done with Lyndon [Dykes] if he scored a goal or two, but Jack [Hamilton] and the two lads who came on worked their socks off."

  17. FULL-TIME Livingston 0-0 Rangerspublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

Rangers go top of the Premiership on goal difference from Hibs, but like the Edinburgh side yesterday drop their first points of the season.

Livingston were hampered by the absence of top scorer Lyndon Dykes with the striker poised for a transfer to QPR, but the hosts put in an impressive defensive effort to secure a second point of the season.

For Steven Gerrard's side, it is a repeat of last season, when they struggled to break down a stubborn back line and they miss an opportunity to create an eight-point gap between themselves and reigning champions Celtic.
