    Glentoran 1-0 HB Torshavn

    It's all over!

Robbie McDaid's first-half strike lifts Glentoran to their first win in European competition since 2011.

McDaid fired home an excellent volley after being teed up by Rory Donnelly to set up a fascinating showdown with Motherwell, who are managed by former Northern Ireland international Stephen Robinson.

That match will take place at Fir Park next Thursday (27 August) at 19:45 BST.

Tonight was far from vintage stuff from Glentoran, but they just needed to get the job done, and thanks to McDaid's clinical touch, they have done just that.

Onwards and upwards for the Irish Cup winners.

Torshavn are starting to come forward in numbers but they are yet to make Coleing work.

One minute of normal time remaining.

Patrick McClean has breezed through this game. My opinion is that he could play at a higher level. But he's playing for a club that has really taken to him, and he's taken to them. I've often said that Glentoran have lacked leaders in recent times but he's always getting at his full-backs, his midfielders.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    Glentoran 1-0 HB Torshavn

Another Glentoran debut as Jamie McDonagh replaces Paul O'Neill.

And, in a hilarious twist, the fourth official sends McDonagh on with a replacement red card with the referee having seemingly misplaced his!

Red card in hand - not exactly how McDonagh imagined his Glentoran career would start.

Meanwhile, Torshavn have sent on Mads Mikkelsen (sadly not the actor).

  8. Off the line!published at 20:26 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

Torshavn come close to snatching the equaliser as Bigirmana heads the ball off the line to deny Jakobsen.

Right place, right time for the midfielder with Coleing in no man's land.

Luke McCullough comes on for his Glentoran debut as he replaces Clucas.

Now Hansen goes into the referee's book after clattering into Clucas, who had already gone to ground and swept the ball away.

An hour gone at the Oval.

  11. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:13 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

Bigirimana is booked for a robust challenge. Like McClean in the first half, the midfielder clearly won the ball but the Swiss official did not like the force with which he went to ground.

A moment earlier, Bigirmana's corner caused havoc in the Torshavn box and it almost resulted in Glentoran's second only for the visitors to clear at in the nick of time.

    Glentoran 1-0 HB Torshavn

Robbie McDaid's strike after 42 minutes separates the sides at the break.

It's been a game of precious few chances but McDaid needed only one invitation.

Advantage Glentoran with 45 minutes remaining.

  17. goal

GOALpublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    Glentoran 1-0 HB Torshavn

Robbie McDaid opens the scoring with an excellent first-time finish!

Rory Donnelly lifts a perfectly weighted pass over the top of the defence and McDaid smashes his volley low and hard into the back of the net.

It's another goal for Irish Cup hero McDaid, and exactly what the hosts needed after a dour first half.

So far, there have been no questions asked of Torshavn and that will be the disappointing thing for Mick McDermott. Glentoran are at home - they have to take the game to them, they have to show the initiative.

  19. YELLOW CARDpublished at 19:30 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

Patrick McClean receives a booking for a challenge that was deemed too strong by the referee.

Jakobsen tries his luck in spectacular fashion, but the forward is unable to connect cleanly with his overhead kick and it goes wide.

It's been very cagey so far.
