  4. Bayern march onpublished at 08:53 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    Lyon 0-3 Bayern Munich

Victory in the Champions League on Sunday would cap a truly stellar season for Bayern, who have already posted some impressive numbers:

    • Coach Hansi Flick's side have now won 10 consecutive games in the Champions League, equalling the longest winning streak by a team in the competition's history (achieved by Real Madrid in 2015 and Bayern themselves in 2013).
    • They are on the longest unbeaten run across Europe's top five league's (P29 W28 D1 L0), scoring 97 goals during this run (3.4 per game) and winning their past 20.
    • They are only the fourth team in Champions League history to surpass 40 goals in a single campaign. Only Barcelona in 1999-2000 have netted more in a season in the competition (45) than Bayern's 42 this time.
    • They already have two trophies this season, scoring 100 goals to win their 30th Bundesliga title before also claiming the German Cup.
    • Sunday's final will be their 11th in the European Cup, equalling AC Milan's tally. Only Real Madrid (16) having featured in more.
    • Striker Robert Lewandowski has become only the second player in the history of the Champions League to score 15 goals in a single campaign, along with Cristiano Ronaldo, who has done so three times.

Derek Elmore: As an Arsenal season ticket holder I don’t mind who we play first, I’d just like our first 19 Premier League games to be away please. We might be allowed in the grounds for the second half of the season.

I think that's an optimistic shout I'm afraid, Derek!

  7. Reaching final 'a dream come true'published at 08:43 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    Lyon 0-3 Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies says reaching the Champions League final is "a dream come true".

Davies, 19, joined Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019 for a then Major League Soccer record £9.84m

He is set to become the first Canada international to play in the final of Europe's elite club competition.

"Playing in the Champions League and getting to the final is everything you could ask for," he told BT Sport.

Davies, who also impressed in the 4-1 win over Chelsea in the last 16 and the 8-2 quarter-final demolition of Barcelona, says his side will be "hungry" to see out the season in style.

It will be a good game - there will be goals in that game. This is what you dream about as a footballer: playing with the best and against the best in Europe.

"It is a dream come true. Even though they [the older players in the squad] have won many many titles before they are still hungry to win this one."

  8. Bayern ease through to finalpublished at 08:31 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    Lyon 0-3 Bayern Munich

While we are all looking forward to 2020-21, don't forget 2019-20 is still going on!

Bayern Munich's relentless march through this season's Champions League continued last night as they brushed aside Lyon to book an 11th appearance in the final of the competition and a showdown with Paris St-Germain.

The German champions have barely had a glove laid on them in Europe this season, with this their 10th straight Champions League win - equalling the record for winning streaks in the competition set by Real Madrid in 2015 and Bayern themselves in 2013 - as part of a 28-game unbeaten run stretching back to December.

And Lyon simply did not have ability or approach over the 90 minutes to buck that trend.

  18. 'The scope for re-arranging games is severely limited'published at 07:16 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    2020-21 Premier League fixtures revealed

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Manchester City and Manchester United will both be spared having to start their 2020-21 Premier League season on 12 September – but fellow European contenders Wolves will be in action on the opening weekend.

However, whilst City and United will have fixtures listed for the opening weekend, they will be moved as a result of the agreement amongst all Premier League clubs for every squad to get a minimum of 30 days between their final game of the 2019-20 season and their first of the new campaign.

Both Manchester clubs were knocked out of Europe last weekend, four weeks before the new campaign. It means, in theory, City could play on 15 September, with United in action the following night.

However, these dates clash with the EFL Cup second round, which Wolves are in after their failure to secure a top-six spot.

It is understood both Wolves and Chelsea felt they should have been given a delayed start on the basis their preparation for the new season would be severely hampered by the international break.

As City and United enter the EFL Cup at the third round stage on 22 September, with the fourth round the following midweek, the scope for re-arranging games is severely limited.

Tottenham are already aware if they get through the second qualifying round of the Europa League on 17 September, they will be involved in European competition and the EFL Cup during the following week and – potentially – the week after.

With Champions League and Europa League group games arranged for October, November and December, there are no spare midweek dates for the Premier League to slot spare fixture into until the end of January.

  19. Winter break scrapped for 2020-21published at 07:10 British Summer Time 20 August 2020

    2020-21 Premier League fixtures revealed

The 2020-21 season will be five weeks shorter than usual because of the late end to 2019-20 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The campaign is set to start on 12 September and finish on 23 May 2021.

As a result, the Premier League has scrapped its winter break because of fixture congestion.

FA Cup replays have also been scrapped for this season to ease pressure on the already packed calendar, while the Carabao Cup semi-finals in January will be one-legged.
