    It's unthinkable that Scotland don't win this game. But I'm thinking a lot about it.

  6. Match statspublished at 19:36 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    • Scotland won their last game in Czech Republic in March 2016 (1-0) thanks to an Ikechi Anya goal. They had lost their previous five;
    • Scotland are unbeaten in their past four games (W3 D1);
    • The Czechs have won six of their past nine games, scoring two or more in seven of those;
    • The last Scotland manager to win consecutive away games was Gordon Strachan in March 2016.

    Because they've all come out of nowhere this group of players have a common goal, to make the most of this one off chance. It's a bit of a free hit for the Czech Republic.

    If we had to put together a team from the Scottish Premiership, you would put out a good team and you would expect them to be competitive and I think the Czech team will be no different

    Czech Republic v Scotland (19:45)

    I've been a bit tongue in cheek about the standard of this Czech Republic team.

    But it should be said, these are all full-time players playing in the Czech top flight. It's not akin to playing part-time players of San Marino or Gibraltar.

    Plus, given Scotland have a habit of making life hard for themselves, nothing can be taken for granted.

    Czech Republic v Scotland (19:45)

    36-year-old Roman Hubnik has come out of international retirement JUST to play this game tonight.

    Scotland fans might remember he scored the winner in a 1-0 win when the sides met in 2010. The infamous 4-6-0 under Craig Levein...

    Of course Spain went on to win Euro 2012 playing that very formation. Revolutionary stuff.

    Even if you're not in a familiar position to work as a team, there still needs to be some personal motivation to prove themselves at international level. This is a great opportunity to cement a place in the team for some players.

  13. Who did you pick?published at 19:14 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Czech Republic v Scotland (19:45)

    Well, Steve Clarke's team tonight differs vastly from the one the BBC Sport audience chose via our selector.

    For a start, you chose Kieran Tierney at right-back, though you agreed that Liam Cooper should come in.

  16. Pressure on Scotlandpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Czech Republic v Scotland (19:45)

    If you've even loosely followed Scotland for the last 22 years, then you'll know a match against a depleted squad that everyone expects them to win is exactly the type of occasion when they don't.

    Like in qualification for Euro 2008 when Georgia, who had nothing to play for, handed a debut to a 17-year-old goalkeeper who had yet to play for his club. The final result? A 2-0 win for Georgia.

    Just reining in expectations...

  18. Bizarre 72 hourspublished at 18:54 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Czech Republic v Scotland (19:45)

    A LOT has happened since the full-time whistle sounded at Hampden on Friday night.

    Just two hours later the Czech FA tweeted saying tonight's game had been cancelled because two of their players had come into contact with a member of staff who tested positive for coronavirus.

    With the Scottish FA left scratching their heads, on Saturday Uefa insisted the game was on and the Czech FA then said a team of "new players" with a different coaching staff would fulfil the fixture.

    On Sunday the Czech Republic - who beat Slovakia 3-1 on Friday - announced a new 24-man squad, 22 of whom have never played for the national side.

    One of those who is capped, Roman Hubnik, has come out of international retirement just for the occasion! Crazy stuff.

    Liam Palmer finished the season as a right-sided centre back at Sheffield Wednesday. So the suggestion is perhaps we may actually be seeing a back three again tonight.

    We wait with interest.

  20. Five changes for Scotlandpublished at 18:28 British Summer Time 7 September 2020

    Czech Republic v Scotland (19:45)

    That team selection seems like it's geared towards having a look at one or two players ahead of next month's play-off.

    Kieran Tierney, Ryan Jack, Callum McGregor, John McGinn, and James Forrest all drop out. Sheffield United's John Fleck will earn just his fourth cap alongside Kenny McLean and Scott McTominay in central midfield.

    Liam Cooper, who is off the back of an outstanding season with Leeds, partners Scott McKenna in central defence, with Liam Palmer at right-back. Stuart Armstrong, along with Ryan Christie, will support Lyndon Dykes in attack.
