    FT: Derby 0-1 Watford

We thought we were in for a right stinker of a 0-0 draw but then Joao Pedro came along to light things up.

Watford's Brazilian teenager looks like one to watch this season.

We'll be back from 14:00 BST on Saturday to keep you across 34 matches in the EFL.

At the other end it's one win and four defeats to start the season for Derby.

Phillip Cocu's Rams could find themselves in the bottom three this time tomorrow, but it's still very early days to be getting too hung up on league tables.

That victory moves Watford into the play-off places, with all the teams around them to play on Saturday.

Vladimir Ivic's side have scored three goals and conceded just once from their five games.

    FT: Derby 0-1 Watford

Watford had failed to win any of their last 10 on the road - a run stretching back to last season's Premier League campaign.

There's still a feeling that they have another gear to go into, which I suppose is not a bad sign.

Vladimir Ivic has a glowing reputation and you feel the Hornets will only get stronger.

Watford get their third 1-0 Championship win of the season thanks to a piece of pure magic from teenage forward Joao Pedro.

Wayne Rooney twice went close for Derby as they chased a leveller but the Rams have lost five home league games in a row for the first time since 2011.

The early-season pressure on Phillip Cocu isn't going to relent.

  6. CLOSE!published at 90+4 mins

    Derby 0-1 Watford

    OOH!

It's Wayne Rooney (of course) and it ripples the top of the net as it curls just over the bar.

    Watford survive.

    Derby 0-1 Watford

    It's not over yet.

Derby have won a free-kick 25 yards out - I wonder who might take it...

Ben Wilmot is booked for the late challenge on Jason Knight.

  8. Postpublished at 90+1 mins

    Derby 0-1 Watford

Before the game I was seeing a lot of gloomy score predictions from Derby fans, who thought their side would be toothless in attack.

I'm afraid to say they were right to be concerned on this evidence.

Letting Jack Marriott go out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday seems a strange decision, that's for sure.

  9. INJURY TIMEpublished at 21:34 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

    Derby 0-1 Watford

We're into four minutes of stoppage time at Pride Park.

  10. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 90 mins

    Derby 0-1 Watford

Another penalty appeal for handball, this time it's Derby complaining.

Tom Lawrence has a go from 20 yards and it hits James Cleverley on the arm but there's nothing the Watford skipper could do about that and the referee quite rightly is unmoved.

Watford, meanwhile, have brought on-loan Manchester United midfielder James Garner on for Domingos Quina.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 87 mins

    Derby 0-1 Watford

    A change for each side.

Derby bring on Morgan Whittaker for Lee Buchanan as they go in search of an equaliser.

Watford, meanwhile, have replaced Joao Pedro with veteran on-loan Brighton striker Glenn Murray.

  12. Postpublished at 86 mins

    Derby 0-1 Watford

The goalscorer Joao Pedro is down for Watford, possibly with cramp.

It was a moment of sheer class from the Brazilian to put the visitors ahead.

He scored the winner in the derby against Luton last time out, and has that star quality.

  13. Postpublished at 83 mins

    Derby 0-1 Watford

    1-0, 0-0, 1-0, 1-0.

Watford's Championship results this season before tonight.

If they take the points here it'll be a pretty useful 10 points from their opening five games after being relegated from the Premier League.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 81 mins

    Derby 0-1 Watford

Striker Jahmal Hector-Ingram comes on for Derby, with Graeme Shinnie making way.

They've reacted well since falling behind.

  15. CLOSE!published at 80 mins

    Derby 0-1 Watford

A big chance goes begging for Derby talisman Wayne Rooney.

Tom Lawrence has been a livewire since coming on and splits the Watford defence with a pass for Rooney, who sidefoots just wide.

You'd expect the former Manchester United man to score those.

  16. goal

GOAL: Derby 0-1 Watfordpublished at 21:20 British Summer Time 16 October 2020

    Joao Pedro (76 mins)

    That was worth the wait.

Watford forward Joao Pedro receives the ball just outside the box with plenty of Derby bodies around him, but takes advantage of the smallest bit of space to bend beyond David Marshall into the far corner.

A fine finish from the 19-year-old Brazilian and the visitors lead.

  17. Postpublished at 75 mins

    Derby 0-0 Watford

We've had a shot on target!

Derby substitute Tom Lawrence beats a man, shows some pace and has a go from 25 yards but it's comfortably gathered by Ben Foster.

  18. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 72 mins

    Derby 0-0 Watford

    Corner for Watford.

Curtis Davies and Matt Clarke are defending the Derby box very well as the visitors are starting to gain the upper hand.

Watford have brought experienced centre-back Craig Cathcart on for debutant William Troost-Ekong - who didn't put a foot wrong out there.

  19. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Derby 0-0 Watford

    Watford are starting to probe.

Domingos Quina has a shot from outside the box blocked and then Derby's Curtis Davies has to be alert to clear a dangerous cross into the area.

Wayne Ellis: The game’s truly gone if we’re seriously debating whether that’s a penalty. Nice to see common sense prevail for once.

I agree with you completely, Wayne. But it's the way the game is going unfortunately, and we've seen several of those given already this season.
