    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Cardiff are enjoying a decent spell at the moment, keeping the ball better than Preston and looking more threatening than their opponents.

They've yet to make it count, but you'd think Bluebirds manager Neil Harris will be encouraged by what he's seen so far.

  2. 'Preston weak on the right'published at 39 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

    Kevin Ratcliffe
Former Wales captain on BBC Radio Wales

The weakness for Preston is on their right-hand side.

I just can't see their shape, how they're trying to play.

A player like Harry Wilson will be looking to exploit that.

  3. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

That's a late tackle from Junior Hoilett on Preston right-back Joe Rafferty.

Referee Keith Stroud has a word with the Cardiff winger but does not show him a yellow card.

  4. No luck for Cunninghampublished at 36 mins

That is cruel on Greg Cunningham.

Having been out for so long with a serious knee injury, the left-back was handed a second Cardiff league start since January 2019 today in the absence of Joe Bennett, who has a hamstring problem.

Yet Cunningham's afternoon has lasted only 29 minutes because of what looked like a hamstring issue of his own.

Neil Harris had a couple of defenders on the bench, but turned instead to new recruit Harry Wilson, with Leandro Bacuna dropping to an unfamiliar left-back role.

  5. Chance!published at 32 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Best chance of the game so far, and it falls to Cardiff striker Kieffer Moore.

Jordi Osei-Tutu cuts on to his left foot from the right wing and curls a fine cross into the box.

The giant Moore rises well to meet the cross but he heads over the bar.

    Great chance.

  6. Postpublished at 31 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Cardiff have had to shuffle things after that substitution.

It looks like debutant Harry Wilson is on in the 10 position, in between midfield and lone striker Kieffer Moore.

Joe Ralls has moved a little deeper in midfield and Leandro Bacuna has dropped from midfield back to left-back.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 29 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

This is a concern for Cardiff.

Greg Cunningham looks like he's injured - he's getting treatment near the halfway line.

Cardiff are already without left-back Joe Bennett.

It looks like Harry Wilson is getting ready to come on for his debut.

He is indeed. The Wales midfielder is on for Cunningham.

You would imagine that would mean Leandro Bacuna dropping back from midfield to play at left-back, having played at right-back quite frequently for Cardiff.

  8. Honours even so farpublished at 28 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

    Gareth Vincent
    BBC Sport Wales

Cardiff have lost only once in seven regular-season away games stretching back to last term, while Preston have managed just one victory in their last eight Championship outings at Deepdale.

But you would not know any of that based on what we have seen so far today.

It has been a tight, somewhat scrappy contest with neither team able to assert any control as yet.

  9. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Cardiff's first shot on target is from Leandro Bacuna, who strikes powerfully from 25 yards - but it's straight at Declan Rudd.

Sheyi Ojo then has a shot blocked for the Bluebirds.

Hard to argue with Kevin Ratcliffe's assessment so far.

  10. 'A non-entity of a game'published at 23 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

    Kevin Ratcliffe
Former Wales captain on BBC Radio Wales

This game has lacked goalmouth activity so far.

    It's a non-entity from both sides.

  11. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

It's another long throw level with the box for Cardiff.

Marlon Pack launches the ball into the penalty area again, and Patrick Bauer heads it out for a Cardiff corner.

Junior Hoilett has a shot blocked from the corner and then Sean Morrison's header across goal is caught by Declan Rudd.

Could the Cardiff captain have chested that down and had a shot?

  12. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Preston have the first shot on target of the match, and it's quite a comfortable save for Alex Smithies as he catches an effort from Sean Maguire.

Encouraging for Preston that they're getting the ball into the penalty area, though neither side have really got into the groove yet.

  13. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Cardiff right-back Jordi Osei-Tutu gets caught in possession and gives the ball away near his own penalty area.

Preston then win a free-kick in a dangerous area, just a yard or two outside the box.

Chance here for the hosts. Looks like it will be Brad Potts... and he blasts it into the wall.

Osei-Tutu breathes a sigh of relief as the ball goes out for a throw.

  14. 'Better shape from Cardiff'published at 14 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

    Kevin Ratcliffe
Former Wales captain on BBC Radio Wales

You can see Cardiff's shape better than Preston's.

That's a good sign for Cardiff.

  15. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Alan Browne gets a Preston attack going on the right wing but the move breaks down.

The home side have not really got going yet.

  16. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

That's the first chance of the game, and it falls to Cardiff's Junior Hoilett.

Centre-back Sean Morrison had stayed up from the long throw and he chests the ball down to his team-mate - but Hoilett skies his half-volley well over the bar.

    That was a decent opportunity.

  17. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Junior Hoilett earns a throw-in for Cardiff in a decent position.

Will Vaulks isn't playing today but Marlon Pack also boasts quite a long throw, so he hoists a looping ball into the box.

It's cleared and, from the next phase, Joe Ralls puts in a dangerous low cross but Preston clear again.

  18. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Now it's a corner to Cardiff, with Marlon Pack to take.

He floats it to the back post and then Junior Hoilett crosses back in from the opposite flank - and that is easily caught by Preston keeper Declan Rudd.

    So far, so even.

  19. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Preston have the first corner of the game and, after an initial struggle to clear, Cardiff eventually get the ball away thanks to striker Kieffer Moore.

  20. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Preston 0-0 Cardiff

Preston mount the first attack of the day as Scott Sinclair sends Andrew Hughes into space in the penalty area, but his pull-back is cleared.
