As football continues to count the cost of the coronavirus pandemic, Preston advisor Peter Ridsdale issued a grim warning this week when he said several Championship clubs could fold by Christmas unless they get funding.

The Premier League has offered a £50m rescue package to League One and Two clubs to help with Covid-19 losses.

But talks with the EFL about how to help Championship sides are ongoing.

"My guess is there are at least half a dozen (clubs) that when it gets to Christmas and there's no solution, a number of them may well fold or go into administration," Ridsdale said.

Cardiff: Smithies, Osei-Tutu, Nelson, Morrison, Cunningham, Bacuna, Pack. Ojo, Ralls, Hoilett, Moore.

  6. Team news - Preston unchanged from Brentford winpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 18 October 2020

    Preston v Cardiff (12:00 BST)

Preston claimed their first league win of the season last time out thanks to a fine comeback win at Brentford, so it is no great surprise to see Alex Neil name an unchanged team.

The good news for Neil is that Alan Browne plays even though he was one of the players forced to isolate while on international duty with the Republic of Ireland this week, while the influential Daniel Johnson is back after injury on the bench.

Preston: Rudd, Rafferty, Bauer, Davies, Hughes, Pearson, Ledson, Potts, Browne, Sinclair, Maguire.

Subs: Ripley, Storey, Gallagher, Johnson, Barkhuizen, Stockley, Jakobsen.

  7. Hello and welcomepublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 18 October 2020

    Preston v Cardiff (12:00 BST)

    Hello there!

We've got some Championship football to bring you this afternoon, as Preston host Cardiff in the early kick-off.

It's been an underwhelming start to the season for both sides, with Preston 17th in the table and the Bluebirds 18th.

It's a far cry from last season, when Cardiff reached the play-offs and Preston just missed out on the top six - but the teams have only played four games each so far.

So who will kickstart their season at Deepdale today?

Let's start with the team news and see if any of the big transfer deadline day signings make an appearance...
