Rezaa: If Lewis Dunk was playing for a top six club, he'd be picked without a doubt

Mr M: Calvert-Lewin definitely deserves his place but the squad looks very short of quality in midfield.

Richard: inexplicably and yet again no Lewis Dunk. Is this a Crystal Palace thing with Southgate?

More from Jamie Redknapp now on Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden's omission.

"I feel sorry for the two lads," Redknapp told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"They are kids and they have paid a huge price but this might be the best lesson they are ever going to get. Hopefully, it is a learning curve for them and they will realise how careful they have to be.

"You have to be an angle as a footballer now, otherwise you can get into a situation like these two lads have. I have no doubts they will come through and have amazing careers, but I have no problem with what Gareth Southgate has done."

  6. 'I was a young man once'published at 14:34 British Summer Time 1 October 2020

    England squad announcement

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Speaking about Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden's omission from the England squad, former England international Jamie Redknapp told BBC Radio 5 Live: "These are two young men who have made a mistake and they have had to pay the price for that. But I was a young man once and I did stupid things, so you have to remember that.

"I was so lucky I had honesty around me at all times. You just hope these two young men are being told by their agents and their families that this is not the way to behave.

"The first time I made a mistake, my dad was the first person to tell me. I don’t think young sportsmen have that as much anymore."

Francesca: I think nearly every player that people mentioned in the previous tweets, those players are in... so good guesses guys, clap on the back

Sam: Foden & Greenwood instead of Phillips & Barnes. I know they were wrong for what they did, but we should prioritise results and class over discipline after only 1 upset in their careers. They're still young but super players and had already been sent home once.

  9. 'A lot of Dominic’s game I’ve liked for a long time'published at 14:15 British Summer Time 1 October 2020

    England squad announcement

Gareth Southgate on calling up Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the first time: “He’s been in the pathway through the U21s, had a good season last season.

“A lot of Dominic’s game I’ve liked for a long time, what he’s adding now is the goals that haven’t always been there and in the last 18 months or so he has really improved in that area.

“He’s been a big part of Everton’s starting the season as well as they have and I’m very pleased to be able to call him up for the first time.”

I agree with Gaz. If Southgate doesn't pick Lewis Dunk in the England squad then it is nothing short of disgraceful . He's playing out of his skin at the moment and clearly deserves another chance.

Holders Manchester City are monitoring Rose Lavelle's improving fitness before Thursday's Women's FA Cup semi-final against 14-time winners Arsenal.

Whoever goes through will face Everton at Wembley on 1 November after the Toffees beat Birmingham City 3-0.

United States midfielder Lavelle has yet to play for Man City since arriving in August with a minor ankle injury.

But manager Gareth Taylor hopes to give a debut "over the next couple of games" to the 25-year-old World Cup winner.

"Rose has been training hard," said Taylor. "What we're trying to do with her is just make sure she's ready.
