I'm tired of seeing Lewis Dunk constantly over looked by Southgate, he is 100% in the top five English centre-backs

    Gaz

Spurs players should not be picked. They need to be rested. Come on Gareth, do the right thing!

    Rich, Aldermaston

Lewis Dunk has a solitary England cap - playing the whole 90 minutes against United States in November 2018.

Harrison Short: Gareth took a risk by picking one of the youngest and most inexperienced squads at the 2018 World Cup, while leaving out loyal stalwarts like Joe Hart and Jack Wilshere, and it paid off. He needs to get rid of the deadwood and take risks again for Euro '21 success.

As a Welsh-born Spurs fan, it's the right call to leave Bale out. Give him time to get back to full fitness - for both club and Country - will only benefit both over the long term. Well played, Giggs.

Think Gareth should include Foden and Greenwood. They know they did wrong but it's been a good start to the season for both. Keep boosting their confidence. They are our future.

    Freddie, London

Might be a shock if included but Ryan Kent at Rangers has been on form. Also, could we see a new goalie if Dean Henderson isn't United's No.1?

  12. Bale back in trainingpublished at 11:10 British Summer Time 1 October 2020

Gareth Bale has been left out of the Wales squad for their friendly against England and their Nations League matches against the Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria. The forward has been carrying a knee injury over recent weeks.

However, he was fit enough to take to the training field at Hotspur Way this morning.

Looks like we will be seeing Bale back in a Tottenham shirt very soon.

England squad announcement day always throws up the same debate. Form vs Ability. Southgate needs to start to form a settled nucleus of a squad, he can't chop and change with every player that hits a purple patch of form, three weeks before the next squad. Bamford isn't good enough for that level. You only call DCL up now if you plan on keeping him in and building for Euro 2021 (2020). England caps should be hard to get and special when received.

  17. Who should Southgate select?published at 10:39 British Summer Time 1 October 2020

There a number of issues for Gareth Southgate to ponder before he names his squad.

Harry Maguire is expected to return after he was withdrawn from the squad last month, but will Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden be selected after their indiscretions in Iceland?

Then there is Dominic Calvert-Lewin - has the Toffees striker done enough to earn a first call up?

    Decisions, decisions...

Everton looking at Ben Godfrey is a good thing. Shrewsbury Town had him on loan three seasons ago, almost won League 1 with him and Henderson in goal despite the cash of others. Carlo should buy him. Future England captain in my view.
