Asked whether Sandy MacIver or Ellie Roebuck should be next permanent England keeper...

"Ellie is still ahead of Sandy in my opinion. Sandy made some key saves and it would not have gone into extra time but for her.

Manchester City manager Gareth Taylor told BBC One: "I feel a whole mixture of emotions today, it's crazy.

"We dominated huge portions of the game. It was always tight. I still felt comfortable at 1-1. If we kept sticking to our principals I knew we'd be okay.

"I'm super proud of the players and this builds us a great platform. We just needed to improve our quality in the final third. But look, the emotions are high, it was about winning today.

"New manager, new players, and it takes time. We'll get there, but this is great."

This result continues Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea’s combined six-season-long dominance of the major domestic trophies in the English women’s game.

Not since Liverpool lifted the league title in 2014 has any club other than the modern-day ‘big three’ won the WSL, Women’s FA Cup or Continental League Cup.

City only turned professional in the build-up to the 2014 summer season but have now won seven major honours since then, adding their third FA Cup to three League Cups and the 2016 league crown.

Manchester City goalscorer Georgia Stanway told BBC One: "It was an exciting game to play in. Everton put out an unbelievable performance and we matched it. We had an extra gear to go up to in the end. It was just about having enough to find it.

"The boots were shaking a bit but we also knew we had it under control.

"It’s massive, from the first half we were dominant in the game. If we settle down and played our football we knew it would come.

"We’ll celebrate tonight but we won’t go too hard as we have a game on Wednesday.

"It’s sad that my family aren’t here, but I hope to do a rerun of this in the years to come."
