Well, this is a surprise opener but a very neat finish nonetheless from Coventry City midfielder Gustavo Hamer.

Reading fall behind in a Championship fixture for the first time this season.

Some good build-up down the left from the hosts sees Matt Godden lay it off on the D to the midfielder and he sidefoots the ball at pace along the skiddy wet turf with his right past an outstretched Rafael in Reading's goal and into the bottom right corner.

    Coventry ahead.

    Coventry City 0-0 Reading

Plenty of the ball being kept in play as both sides do their best to move it around at pace.

Lucas Joao is almost in for Reading after some decent build-up, but the ball just skips away from his as he tries to poke it past Marko Marosi as he came off his line.

Coventry keeper stayed big there to block the best chance of the game so far.

    Coventry City 0-0 Reading

Good run and cross down the left for Coventry by Ryan Giles.

Gets the ball into towards the penalty spot where Matt Godden meets it but can't direct his header on target for the hosts.

Sone Aluko meanwhile tries to fashion another chance for Reading at the other end as he sends a low ball diagonally across the Coventry box but there's nobody in a red shirt on the end of it.

    Coventry City 0-0 Reading

First corner of the night for Reading is headed clear confidently by Gustavo Hamer.

Shortly after Sone Aluko fails to make the most of getting clear down the left and inside the Coventry box as he scuffs his attempted cross straight to the goalkeeper.

  5. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Coventry City 0-0 Reading

Alfa Semedo should've done a lot better for Reading there.

Nice work down the left wing involving Omar Richards and Michael Olise, but the Benfica loanee blazes it well over the crossbar from just outside the penalty box into the empty seats behind the Coventry goal.

  6. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Coventry City 0-0 Reading

Matty Godden thinks he's in for half a sec for Coventry City, but the Sky Blues captain strays just a fraction offside from the ball in by Jordan Shipley.

Just as well for Reading skipper Liam Moore who looked like he may have lost his man for a second there.

  7. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Coventry City 0-0 Reading

Ambitious early effort from Reading's Omar Richards as he sweeps forward from left-back.

Takes aim with his left from about 30 yards back, but that lost some power with a deflection through to Marko Marosi in the Coventry goal.

  8. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Coventry City 0-0 Reading

Sone Aluko almost profits from some ponderous play by Coventry across their own penalty box as Fankaty Dabo plays a dangerous pass across his own goal.

Aluko is alert and almost latches on to an easy finish inside the box but can't quite stretch his legs to the ball in time.

Well, Reading have already taken longer to find the back of the net this evening than they did on Tuesday at Blackburn.

It took just 12 seconds officially for Yakou Meite to score there.

A bit more of a calm and measured approach on the ball from the Royals from the off here.

  19. Can a surprise package deliver again?published at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2020

"League tables mean nothing at this stage of the season."

How often do you hear those words uttered by a manager when their side makes a strong start to a campaign and flies out the blocks?

Well, Reading manager Veljko Paunovic said something more or less along those lines earlier this week even after his side recorded an impressive away win at Blackburn on Tuesday.

That result put them six points clear at the top of the Championship and another win tonight could see them stretch that lead to nine.

For Coventry City, they will be saying very much the same phrase, but for somewhat different reasons.

The Sky Blues begin the evening inside the bottom three with just the one win so far this season but know victory tonight could be just the kick-start they need.

It all gets going in the next 15 minutes....
