I am not sure it means that much given their respective positions in the table but Manchester United have gone above Manchester City in the Premier League table.

It is only the second time that has happened since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became manager - the previous occasion was the first day of last season when United beat Chelsea 4-0. That lasted a week.

Man Utd have beaten West Brom in the Premier League at Old Trafford for the first time since November 2015 (2-0), having failed to win their last two such games, without scoring a goal (D1 L1).

  5. 'I'm disappointed with the result and the referee'published at 22:33 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2020

    Man Utd 1-0 West Brom

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We were unlucky. They had a few chances and we expected that. As a promoted team we need a good goalkeeper and Sam [Johnstone] was really good for us but we had also more than enough chances to go ahead in the second half.

"On one hand, I'm really proud of the team. We are playing really good and we have to find the space for us to make confidence and belief. If we continue to play like this - and better - we will have a chance in every game."

On his side seeing a penalty overturned: "I saw it a few times and for me it's a penalty. There is no reason for Conor Gallagher to go down without being fouled. He touched his shin. In those few minutes, then it's a penalty for handball [to Manchester United] when before it's a penalty for a foul on Gallagher.

"They became nervous because they wanted a goal, but instead of us being one up it is hard to come back. We showed after that we didn't stop believing or playing. I'm very disappointed with the result and the decisions from the referee."

On Man Utd's penalty: "If it's for us, I ask for a penalty, but [Darnell Furlong] was unlucky. The new rules - no problem. But I have a problem with the foul before. They checked the foul before so I was quite confident but then it was no foul."

  6. 'Maybe the rules are different to how I interpret them'published at 22:32 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2020

    Man Utd 1-0 West Brom

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits West Brom should probably have had a penalty.

"I looked at a penalty this afternoon, Villa-Brighton and there's contact on the ball and then the man," he told BT Sport.

"In my head it might be a penalty. Maybe here we're a tad lucky but none of them are given. Maybe the rules are different to how I interpret them."

  7. 'I've watched it a few times and it's a clear penalty'published at 22:28 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2020

    Man Utd 1-0 West Brom

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic to BT Sport: "We played well. We had a few chances to score. We were there. I told the guys I'm disappointed, I think we deserved something.

"We deserved to go in front in the second half. I told them to stay positive and stay and fight and train and we'll win games."

On the penalty they had overturned: "I'm very disappointed with the decision. I felt like 'small West Brom'. All those crucial decisions went against us. I've watched it a few times and it's a clear penalty. I don't understand why he overturned it."

On United's penalty: "It's a handball. It's a bit unlucky but it's handball. Before that it was a clear foul on Conor Gallagher. Instead of 1-0 for us, it's 1-0 for them. When you play against Manchester United away it's a huge difference."

  8. 'We needed that'published at 22:25 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2020

    Man Utd 1-0 West Brom

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It's nice after the international break that you get a win. We needed that win at home. We looked unsettled towards the end even though we should score one or two more to have a more relaxed finish. It's never comfortable against players of this quality. They had a couple of chances and David [de Gea] made two fantastic saves. Tight margins decide games but the mood is decided by the results.

"It's up to us to create momentum, we have the chance to continue the good start in the Champions League and Southampton away is a very difficult game as well. Hopefully we get a few more back and can kick on."

On the penalty incident: "It's the same with David [de Gea] early on [in the season] when he made a save but he was an inch off the line. It's probably the beauty of Bruno's [Fernandes] style where the keeper goes a second too early. Sam [Johnstone] has developed into a fine keeper.

"The handball rule you van discuss over and over but we get into the box and the ball into feet so with VAR a touch can be enough and it's different to when I was playing when you had to be hacked down."

  10. 'The lads are gutted'published at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2020

    Man Utd 1-0 West Brom

    West Bromwich Albion

West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone: "I was [at Manchester United] since I was 10 years old and it was time to leave. I'm a West Brom player now and it was nice to play here. I wish it was a full house but it is what it is. I thought we should have come away with at least a point.

"I knew I was always going to be busy, that's what I'm there for. We're gutted we didn't take a point."

On the penalty being re-taken: "Growing up you're taught to dive forward so it's so difficult to just dive on your line. We were punished, I've not seen how far I was off my line but it's very disappointing.

"The lads are gutted in there. We fought to the end. If we keep fighting like that hopefully the results start swinging our way."

Interesting. It looks like Fred fouled Conor Gallagher just before United won their penalty, so VAR probably should have said 'no penalty' for tha one.

  12. 'Most important thing is winning'published at 22:13 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2020

    Man Utd 1-0 West Brom

    Manchester United

Man Utd goalscorer Bruno Fernandes speaking to BBC Match of the Day on his penalties: "I know what I have to do, I'm not happy for missing the first one. The most important thing was winning the game, it doesn't matter how we win.

"You have to score the penalties. It doesn't matter if 50% of my goals are from penalties, it's because I take it. It doesn't matter the way you score and as you see it's not easy to score a penalty. I see a lot of teams losing finals on penalties so it's important and it's part of the game."

On West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone's performance: "I think he played well. We created a lot of chances but of course he did a really good job. We have to do much better in the final third, but the keeper did a great job today.

"It doesn't matter the results, we have to win every game. You need the mentality to win every game. It was a tough game and it doesn't matter if we play well. The most important thing is the three points. You are seeing maybe the top six clubs having tough games but it is a tough situation as some teams started late."

  13. 'It's a disgraceful decision'published at 22:09 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2020

    Man Utd 1-0 West Brom

BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, thinks West Brom were very harshly done with their penalty being overturned.

"It's a disgraceful decision," he said. "He got it right first time. It's a nailed-on penalty. How can he go against his own decision on that?"

Manchester United goalscorer Bruno Fernandes to BT Sport: "It was really important to us to win this game because we need the points.

"It was a tough game. We can do a lot better. We created a lot but we have the quality to do better."

On the penalty he 'conceded': "I felt I touched the ball and it was the second contact."

On having to retake his penalty: "It's not good. You need to do it on the first one. I'm not happy. I scored the second one but I didn't the first one."

Scrappy, lucky and a little underwhelming, but it's a win at home and those 3 points put us above City. Small victories!
