There's something to be said for playing a strike partnership.

Such a rarity in modern-day football, especially on the international stage, it is the second time in his seven matches that Northern Ireland manager Ian Baraclough has done so from the start.

And Conor Washington and Liam Boyce are making an impact with their willing runs and harrying of the home defence.

Boyce may feel he should have squared to Washington when he had that chance, but their presence at that end of the pitch helped bring the opportunity about.

With Michael Smith having adapted well to his holding midfield role also, it is so far so good for Northern Ireland in Vienna.

Great defending by Shane Ferguson there for NI. A lucky break is just about to land for Xaver Schlager in the box but Ferguson gets in there and is fouled by Schlager.

Conor Washington could be in here from a long ball... but unfortunately the ball doesn't bounce kindly for him and Austria hack it away.
