It was another chastening night for rookie Derby caretaker boss Wayne Rooney.

The Rams fell to a thumping 3-0 defeat at Middlesbrough to remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Co-caretaker Liam Rosenior said he could not "defend anything about their display", which saw Rooney play the full match.

The Rams are now six points adrift of safety and need to do something swift if they're to avoid a possible relegation to the third tier for the first time since 1984.

We'll be back on Friday night with live text of the London derby between Brentford and QPR.

Thanks for your company and enjoy the rest of your evening.

At the other end of the table, Coventry's much-needed win over Cardiff moves them three points clear of the relegation zone.

That result was the last thing bottom-of-the-table Derby wanted to hear after they got back to the dressing rooms at the Riverside.

A first point under Tony Pulis is a positive for Sheffield Wednesday but they have plenty of work to do to climb out of trouble.

Ideally Steve Cooper would probably have preferred not to use Andre Ayew tonight after his recent muscle injury.

But having seen his team fail to lay a glove on Sheffield Wednesday in the first half, Cooper sent on his biggest hitter at the break.

Ayew needed only 15 minutes to deliver, working the ball onto his left foot before curling a shot into the far corner.

Wednesday were comfortable in the first half, but Swansea have been much better since the break.
