    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Palace chuck on another striker in Michy Batshuayi. James McArthur goes off.

  2. Postpublished at 82 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

A winner now would almost feel wrong. You don't really want to encourage this.

  3. Postpublished at 81 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Darlow's turn to make a save. Van Aanholt's cross is headed downwards and towards goal by Benteke, but the Newcastle keeper is equal to it.

It's not Shelvey. It's Matt Ritchie. And he absolutely leathers it, straight through the wall and on target but also right at Guaita, who gathers at the second attempt after palming the stinging effort down. A couple of feet either side and we'd have an opening goal.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 78 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Now then. Scott Dann takes out Sean Longstaff on the edge of the Palace box. He gets himself a booking for it and the visitors have a golden chance. Jonjo Shelvey has suddenly perked up.

Christian Benteke has been very good since he's come on. His touch has been good and he's had a couple of half chances. The intensity he's been playing at has lifted the players around him.

Big chance. For Joelinton. Ritchie's cross into the box is right there for the Brazilian to head at goal. He practically misses the ball with his effort, though, sending it spinning well wide.

Almost immediately down the other end, Benteke gets goal side but from an angle he drags his shot wide.

  8. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Benteke's first sight of goal is a header that he gets well under and sends into the stand.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 68 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Newcastle's first change sees Matt Ritchie come on for Miguel Almiron, who has been unable to impact the game at all.

  10. Postpublished at 68 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Oh, for a second I thought we had a goal. Callum Wilson has done nothing up until this point in this half, but he is there to meet a Manquillo cross and loop a header just past the far top corner.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 66 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Another change for Palace. Off goes Andros Townsend and on comes Jairo Riedewald.

  12. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 66 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Jordan Ayew is the man replaced by Benteke. The stadium announcer sounds excited by the change anyway.

It looks like we're going to see Christian Benteke soon. I'm beyond being able to work out if this is a good thing or not.

That Eze attempt pretty much summed up how the game has been. Ball up in the air, no-one taking control of it and then the shot well wide.

Palace win a corner, which when swung in causes a bit of chaos. The ball spins out to near the edge of the box for Eze to volley and narrowly miss the corner flag.

Eze scored a good free-kick against Leeds recently but it is not he who hits this one. Should have been, though, in hindsight. Van Aanholt curls it straight into the wall.

  17. YELLOW CARDpublished at 59 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Is this a free-kick? Longstaff looks like he gets the ball as he slides in to deny Eze driving into the box. It's a foul, though, according to the ref. A yellow card also for Longstaff. And a dangerous free-kick, which Eze will fancy.

Another attack with some promise fizzles out when it could have produced much more. Wilson holds the ball up really well and sets up a driving run from Hendrick. He finds Joelinton on the edge of the box but he runs straight into a Palace defender, who tackles and clears. It's going to need a bit more guile than that.

  19. Postpublished at 56 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-0 Newcastle

Jonjo Shelvey has buzzed around on the periphery of this game so far but has a chance to make an impact with a free-kick from 25 yards. He hammers it goalwards but succeeds only in finding the wall.

Oh, almost. Schlupp has looked as likely as anyone for Palace and he fashions another chance with a run and pass that gives Ayew a sniff in the box. He has Newcastle defenders around him and has to slide on the stretch to make contact, pushing his effort just past the far post.
