Standard Liege hit back quickly to level against Lech Poznan. I'm doing sums on my fingers about what it all means, but it's safe to say Rangers are in a good place right now.

Celtic can only get to seven points, if they go to AC Milan and win and then beat Lille in Glasgow, which doesn't look very likely, does it?

That makes a top-two spot out of reach since Milan and / or Sparta are sure to pick something up over the next two matches.

Over in Belgium, Standard Liege and Lech Poznan are locked at 0-0 at half-time, but the home side are down to 10 men.

Rangers would need Liege to win that one and take maximum points themselves to wrap up a place in the last 32 tonight.

So far, so good for Rangers.

The home side lead thanks to an early strike from Scott Arfield.

Since then, Benfica have had the lion's share of possession but have not been able to open up Steven Gerrard's well organised side.

A lovely first touch from Ferreira Silva takes him away from Leon Balogun at the edge of the Rangers penalty area. The midfielder looks set to crack in a shot but Balogun sticks to the task and gets a lunging leg in the way to divert the ball wide.

Rangers are finding it hard to get out of their own half right now as they sit deep and hunt in packs.

As the rain tumbles down, Benfica are trying to build some momentum with their quick passing game but Rangers have a knack of getting a toe to the ball to disrupt their rhythm.

The home side are just taking the sting out the game as they knock a few passes around in their own half.

With a lead to protect, they are in no hurry.
