    Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Few nostalgic banners of Arsenal's former FA Cup triumphs in the stands. The Gunners beat Newcastle in the final in 1998. They are also the holders, of course, but have done little to open up the visitors so far in this second half.

    Brentford 1-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough look to respond immediately as Nathan Wood wins a free-kick inside Brentford's half but they can't capitalise.

Marcus Tavernier then drives down the right and feeds in Chuba Akpom but Brentford keeper Luke Daniels is sharp off his line to close him down at the near post.

  3. 'Arsenal need to be quicker'published at 18:38 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

    Andy Reid
Ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

There hasn't been very many goalmouth opportunities. Arsenal do look more threatening.

Newcastle are just very difficult to break down. They have seven eight, nine and at times even 10 men behind the ball. Arsenal just need to move the ball a little quicker.

Where they will get some joy, if they can draw Newcastle out a little, is in behind.

Here we go. Thrilling seven goal thriller in the second half. Shearer and Wright throw their hats in the air. FA Cup glory is restored. Or, wake us up when it's finished

    Halil Dervisoglu (34 mins)

Brentford deserve to be ahead and Halil Dervisoglu puts them 1-0 up with a good finish from the corner.

Saman Ghoddos' cross isn't cleared in the area and it falls for Dervisoglu. He reacts quickly and fires it into the net, through a huddle of bodies.

  6. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Now it's Newcastle who earn a free-kick and a chance to deliver.

Andy Carroll pulls off the back of David Luiz and gets above the Arsenal defender, but his header is tame and drifts harmlessly wide.

Ashley Park: Take it Gary Lineker didn't get the peaky blinders dress code memo.

Gael Force: See Shearer and Wrighty doing a good impression of Andy Capp at the Emirates.

Lee Howarth: Good to see The Peaky Blinders back on BBC.

    Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Silly foul from Matt Ritchie on Cedric Soares to the left of the Newcastle box and it gives Arsenal a chance to deliver from a dangerous position.

Nicolas Pepe whips it in, but Ciaran Clark heads away.

  10. goal

GOAL - Huddersfield 2-1 Plymouthpublished at 18:33 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Aaron Rowe (32 mins)

    Screamer!!!

Aaron Rowe, take a bow. He cuts inside off the right and absolutely smashes it into the top left corner.

Absolutely nothing the keeper could do about that. One for the "best of the third-round" highlights.

  11. KICK-OFFpublished at 45 mins

    Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Right, back under way at Emirates Stadium. Who's going to break the deadlock? Pens?

Steve Bruce has made a change to his Newcastle side, with Matt Ritchie coming on for Jamaal Lascelles.

  12. Postpublished at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

  13. "I wasn't very well, it's been difficult'published at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

Blackpool 2-2 West Brom (3-2 pens)

Blackpool keeper Chris Maxwell to BBC Sport, after he saved three penalties in his side's shootout win after missing two games with coronavirus:

“It’s good to be back, spending 10 days away from the boys and then spending an extra three days getting back into the swing of things, it’s been difficult.

“I wasn’t very well with it. It’s horrible what’s going on at the moment but I’m glad to be back playing and contributing like I did today.

“We expected as a group to get a result today and we delivered. It would have been awful if we hadn’t got the win today because we were the better team and the longer the game went on we proved that."

Watching a game involving Newcastle is difficult these days. Unbelievably negative and boring.

    Huddersfield 1-1 Plymouth

Jaden Brown tries to get a shot away, jinking in the box as he's pushed out wide. He eventually cuts back inside to create space but fires it over.

  16. CLOSE!published at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Brentford 0-0 Middlesbrough

    Halil Dervisoglu has to score!

Tariqe Fosu-Henry goes on a mazy run, cutting inside off the left and driving along the edge of the box.

He tees up Dervisoglu in the six-yard area but he slices it into the side-netting from close range.

Decent free-kick position for Huddersfield, just outside the box. Jaden Brown takes it but it's over the bar.

    Alan Shearer

    JoelintonImage source, Reuters

Andy Carroll has headed the ball a lot more in his own box than he is in the Newcastle box. When they get the run in behind, players have got to break their neck to get into the box and they just don't do that. By the time players do get there, Arsenal have got bodies back.

Where are the options? Where are the people in the box? The pass has to go in early.

Joelinton has found it difficult. I almost feel sorry for him, with the ball bouncing off him and things just not working out.

  19. goal

GOAL - Huddersfield 1-1 Plymouthpublished at 18:24 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Ryan Hardie (23 mins)

It's won back by Plymouth high up the pitch and Luke Jephcott threads it through perfectly for Ryan Hardie.

He races into the box and slots it coolly past the keeper. That's been coming.

  20. Postpublished at 18:23 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2021

    Brentford 0-0 Middlesbrough

Oooh. Marcus Browne runs the length of the pitch before striking one towards the near post, looking to catch the keeper out from a tight angle.

It's palmed away for a corner. Plenty of power on the shot!
