For an hour at least, it was a little bit uncomfortable for Liverpool against an Aston Villa XI composed of seven under-23 players and four from the under-18s, after a coronavirus outbreak meant no first-team players were available.

Three goals in five second-half minutes by Georginio Wijnaldum, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah ensured Jurgen Klopp's side progressed safely to the fourth round.

But that was only after 17-year-old Louie Barry had brilliantly cancelled out Mane's opener.

It was a brave performance by Villa's youngsters, of which four in the starting side had only recently turned 17, and midfielder Benjamin Chrisene was the youngest at just 16.

Thankfully for Jurgen Klopp, the first shock of the round didn't arrive at his expense on Friday...
