It was the right decision, it was never a red card for Emile Smith Rowe. The officials have used VAR correctly in this situation.

Extra time is under way.
Brentford 1-1 Middlesbrough
Marcus Forss is threaded through with a perfectly-weighted pass on the left. He's in space in the box and though the angle is tight, he should be hitting the target.
Ends up dragging it wide of the far post.
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Honestly, that was a poor game of football. Obviously, because me and Alan have got a vested interest in it, it means a lot but that was a poor game for the neutral.

William: Never a red
Chris: That’s VAR doing it’s thing. Why can’t it always be like that?
Alex: And that is why we have VAR. At first glance I thought it was a red too, it wasn't, so correctly overturned
John: Another half hour of Arsenal v Newcastle, just what we need right now
Brentford 1-1 Middlesbrough
Tariqe Fosu-Henry teases the full-back before lifting it into the middle where Brentford have numbers.
It's a decent ball in too but Mads Bech Sorensen flicks it wide of the far post and it races away from those looking to follow-up.
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle
Frantic finish to this one. And now Newcastle have a corner...
Andy Carroll meets it but his header hits an Arsenal player. We're going to need extra-time to separate these sides.
Huddersfield 2-2 Plymouth
Will Aimson concedes a corner as Huddersfield look to create something. It's dealt with and Conor Grant goes up the other end to win a throw-in in the left corner.
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Former Liverpool and England midfielder on BBC One
Smith Rowe tried to get the ball, he's caught him a little bit. I think the scream from the player has got him sent off.
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle
Andy Reid
Ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live
All of sudden the game burst into life for 90 second there.
I think the red card is harsh, but he has caught him on the shin.
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle
Chris Kavanagh will go and check this on the monitor - he overrules the decision and Smith Rowe's challenge is downgraded to a yellow card.
Brentford 1-1 Middlesbrough
From the corner, it's flicked on at the near post and comes to Sam Folarin. He's not far out, unmarked and in a good position to shoot but he slips and the ball rolls out for a goal kick.
He slams the turf in frustration. Eyes lit up!
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

I'm struggling to see how that is a red card?
Brentford 1-1 Middlesbrough
Marcus Tavernier almost puts Middlesbrough in front.
It's given away by Brentford in midfield. Boro break quickly - Tavernier carrying it all the way into the box before Ethan Pinnock gets back to block the cut-back.
Solid defending.
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle
Emile Smith Rowe is shown a red card!
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle
What a chance, and what a double save!
Nicolas Pepe curls a free-kick into the box and David Luiz heads straight at goal, Newcastle go down the other end and Bernd Leno denies Andy Carroll with a wonderful save before somehow gathering the loose ball.
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle
I think Steve Bruce will be happy with the way his side have played in the second half. They've had seven shots, albeit just one on target, and probably the best chance of the game that Andy Carroll put wide.
Brentford 1-1 Middlesbrough
Marcus Forss has a shot blocked from outside the area as Brentford win successive corners. Both are dealt with by Middlesbrough.
Huddersfield 2-2 Plymouth
Tyrese Fornah needs some treatment after an awkward fall. He looks like he's going to be okay to carry on, though he's doing the "run it off" a little gingerly at the moment.
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle
Danny Murphy
Former Liverpool and England midfielder on BBC One
Andy Carroll will be disappointed with that chance, all of Newcastle will with that set-play. It was too high for Carroll but he has done very well for the team today, he really has.
