It was well over the top but that would've been an outrageous goal by Aubameyang!

Neil: You really get the sense that Arsenal are there for the taking but Newcastle are not good enough to do it.

Michael: Joelinton is struggling to walk quickly at this point - when are we getting Gayle on the he will get in this Arsenal defence

Mike: Why hasn't Arteta brought Lacazette on. Not even an Arsenal fan but he seems incompetent

Arsenal are growing into this game now and the chances are starting to open up. Kieran Tierney edges it inside to Bukayo Saka but the youngster fizzes a left-footed strike over the crossbar from distance.

    Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle

Kieran Tierney has been excellent again, bursting down the left and standing a cross up for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to attack. The forward can only flick his header over the crossbar.

Aubameyang hits another effort on the volley moments later from a long ball, but it loops over.

Mikel Arteta has made positive substitutions and he will now be hoping one of them can produce that moment of magic, that bit of skill to take them through.

Newcastle look they could win this whilst Arsenal look like they've regressed four weeks. Which bodes the question, does anyone care about this competition anymore?

    Dan, London

I'm going to press try the restart program option on iPlayer and see if Arsenal can play better second time round!!

Lovely footwork from Nicolas Pepe, skipping in off the right and shaping to curl an effort into the far corner with his left foot, but sending it comfortably wide from outside the penalty area.

Textbook Andy Carroll, taking a goalkick on his chest and laying it off to a team-mate to start a Newcastle attack. He arrives in the box in an attempt to meet the following cross, but bundles David Luiz over.

Tommy: Arteta's loyalty to some of these players is really costing us this season. Not sure what he sees in some of these.

Markuuus: What do Willian and Pepe bring to the side? Absolutely nothing, slow, ponderous and lacking any idea. Guys are stealing a wage

Bukayo Saka coming on for Arsenal always adds some life and creativity into this side. He's been brilliant this season. He looks super comfortable in any position he plays. He is really versatile.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 68 mins

Good pressure from Newcastle, closing the Gunners down as they look to play out from the back and Bernd Leno ends up clearing it out for a throw.

Jacob Murphy replaces Emil Krafth for the visitors.

Unbelievable that at this level Arsenals two best chances have been wasted by their inability to use their left foot.

Good save! Martin Dubravka dives to his left to push Joe Willock's header behind for a corner. The midfielder got up well to meet Nicolas Pepe's smart cross but couldn't get enough power behind his header. That was a chance for Mikel Arteta's side.

Marcus Browne is still taking on oxygen and is being carried off on a stretcher now. Looks like a bad knee injury.

We'll have around two minutes of stoppage time to play before half time. Sam Folarin comes on as Browne's replacement.
