Well after more EFL football than you could shake your Christmas stocking at over the past week or so, it kind of takes a bit of a back seat now for the coming week.

The FA Cup third round is due to take centre stage next weekend, which will of course tie up all the teams in the Championship plus a fair few more in Leagues One and Two.

There are still however a clutch of matches taking place in midweek and on Friday night dotted around the fixture schedule so keep your eyes peeled across the BBC Sport website and app in the coming days for all the latest news and match reports.

Good luck to Brentford too in the EFL Cup semi-final on Tuesday against Spurs.

Confirmation then of Bournemouth's climb back up to third.

It wasn't a classic by any stretch but Bournemouth stuck in there long enough to take the opportunity to win it when it came.

Stanislas ran on to it to strike goalward but there were Stoke bodies across just in time to block it.

Lewis Cook with a lovely long ball dinked over the top between the two Stoke centre-backs and Junior Stanislas runs on to it before slotting it under the body of Josef Bursik for the opener.

David Brooks straight into the thick of the action.

He is fouled by James McClean who is the third Stoke player booked for that lunge on halfway.

But before that, Wales international Brooks showed just a hint of the way he can quickly open space with through balls. Sadly his team-mates couldn't convert it into a chance.

SUBSTITUTION

Sam Clucas' first act is to be fouled by Lewis Cook on the left touchline to win a free-kick.

Stoke then give away one themselves as the ball goes into the box and there's too much jostling for space in the air.

Bournemouth with the change now - Sam Surridge off and David Brooks on.

Thompson picked up a yellow card earlier in this second half.

But, it's not going to count for Stoke because Nick Powell has fouled Steve Cook as the ball has been fired in low from the right.
