    Glenn Murray
Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 live

With 20 minutes or so to go these free-kicks and set-pieces are really the moments that Shrewsbury need to take advantage of and they really need to make those moments count as we tick towards full-time.

  2. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Shrewsbury

Yes, Southampton have been the better team, but considering this is Shrewsbury's first match of 2021 and, following an outbreak of Covid-19 at the club, this is a very strong performance from the League One outfit.

  3. Postpublished at 69 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Shrewsbury

Southampton are looking to finish this one off. A corner from the left is flicked goalwards by Shane Long, but it's just past the post. Shrewsbury hanging on.

  4. Postpublished at 67 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Shrewsbury

So close to 2-0 and so close to an own goal.

Caleb Watts has a strike at goal, it is parried by Shrewsbury goalkeeper Matija Sarkic, but the ball then bounces off team-mate Aaron Pierre. However, Pierre then shows great reactions to get back and acrobatically clear it off the line.

  5. A result, tonightpublished at 65 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Shrewsbury

Remember, this one has to be sorted out tonight so a Shrewsbury equaliser would take us to extra time and then penalties if needed.

  6. Postpublished at 63 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Shrewsbury

Kegs Chauke leads a Southampton charge forward and plays it wide to Yan Valery, but his cross from the right is pretty terrible and misses all his team-mates.

Not too long after, Jack Stephens has a chance for the hosts, but it is palmed away by Matija Sarkic.

It's a good chance too as James Ward-Prowse's corner from the right is met by Stephens in loads of space and he probably should've given the keeper no chance, but that's a good save to keep us at 1-0.

  7. Postpublished at 59 mins

In case you're wondering, it's still raining heavily.

  8. Postpublished at 57 mins

Harry Chapman with a chance for Shrewsbury, but he sends it harmlessly over the top after he had run at Saints defender Jake Vokins.

  9. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Shrewsbury

A bit of a nervous backpass from Jack Stephens and it's a bit short, but Fraser Forster is alive to the danger and manages to put his foot through it before his clearance can be charged down.

  10. 'Shrewsbury just keeping Southampton at bay'published at 53 mins

The second half has settled into first half of first half - Shrewsbury dropping off and allowing Southampton all the possession.

Shrewsbury are just staying in the tie, I think that's probably their game plan at the moment just stay in the tie, keep Southampton at bay and see what might happen.

Southampton are enjoying a good spell of possession and Shane Long tries to pick up the pace but can only see his pass cut out and the Shrews hack it clear.

  17. 'Professional from Southampton so far'published at 20:49 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2021

    Southampton 1-0 Shrewsbury

    Glenn Murray
Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Most of the possession has been Southampton, more probing than anything. Shrewsbury have dropped deep and almost forced Southampton into playing long balls where they've come unstuck sometimes.

Shrewsbury will be quite happy with the first half but it's been a professional performance from Southampton so far.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2021

    Southampton 1-0 Shrewsbury

That's half time and the Saints lead thanks to Dan N'Lundulu's 16th-minute strike and Ralph Hasenhuttl will be happy with a professional job so far.

But Shrewsbury assistant Aaron Wilbraham pitchside and boss Steve Cotterill, watching on from hospital, will be thinking their side is very much still in this one though.

  19. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Southampton 1-0 Shrewsbury

Shane Long takes a touch on his chest to control a long ball forward and he gets away a shot but it's blocked thanks to an excellent sliding challenge from Matthew Pennington.

It’s a fantastic season to be a Saints fan - we look like we could win every game we play right now. Makes a change being over-performers rather than also rans. What a time to be alive!
