GOAL - Chorley 0-1 Wolvespublished at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2021

    Vitinha (11 mins)

Breakthrough...and what a hit it is.

Wolves forward Vitinha picks the ball up 30-35 yards out, looks up and smashes a vicious, curling, dipping drive which evades goalkeeper Matthew Unwin and ends up in the back of the net.

A great hit, Unwin got a hand to it but there was far too much movement and power on the strike to keep it out.

We're looking for a bit of magic from one of these Chorley players, create history for themselves. It's the magic of the FA Cup and I know that's a saying that's been thrown around left, right and centre through the rounds so far but when you come up against a team like Wolves who have been established in the Premier League for a while - you look forward to these moments.

  9. CLOSE!published at 2 mins

    Chorley 0-0 Wolves

Good grief, what a start from Chorley, flying out of the traps.

Harry Cardwell holds the ball up down the left and finds the run of Elliot Newby in the box, he chests it down into his path and smashes a low shot which John Ruddy has to smother.

Almost a dream start for the hosts.

Wolves lost their last FA Cup meeting with non-league opponents, going down 1-0 at Luton in January 2013.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side go into tonight's tie winless in their past six Premier League games.

"We don't have to go much further back, recent history in football tells you - especially in this competition - things can happen. We have to be aware of the responsibility we have," said Nuno.

"We are going to find a pitch which is not in the best condition, we know an effort has been made to preserve the pitch but with the weather conditions it will be very difficult to play football on. We have to adapt."

    Chorley v Wolves (19:45 GMT)

    Jamie VermiglioImage source, Getty Images

Chorley boss Jamie Vermiglio says if his Chorley team do not pull off a fourth FA Cup shock this season when they play Wolves, currently 14th in the Premier League, it will not be through lack of trying.

The Lancashire part-timers have already beaten 2013 FA Cup winners Wigan, Championship team Derby and Peterborough on their Cup run this season. Vermiglio, a primary school headteacher, says his team know Wolves are a different animal but will not give up without a fight.

“There is a genuine belief there - I'm talking about a tiny, tiny chance, but while there is we're going to give it a go,” he said. “Why not? Every few years something happens in football that makes you think ‘how did they do that?’ That could be us.”

Vermiglio also mentioned how the cup run has helped replace the loss of earnings from closing the club’s terraces to fans during the lockdown. The cup run has earned them £350,000.
