    Watford 2-0 Derby

Well that shows how quickly football can change. Goals change games etc.

It was a nothing first 15 minutes or so but now Derby have a mountain to climb.

They get a corner but it's too low and wasted from Patrick Roberts.

And another! It's Will Hughes against his old club!

His corner is cleared but Nathaniel Chalobah backheels the ball back into the midfielder's path and he has the time to shoot low across Derby keeper David Marshall and into the far corner.

All of a sudden Watford are two up.

  3. goal

    Joao Pedro

It's a fortunate goal but once again Ismaila Sarr causes issues down the right and this time Watford get their reward.

He plays a lovely one-two with full-back Kiko Femenia and pulls the ball back - and Derby defender Andre Wisdom's attempted clearance hits Joao Pedro and goes in off his heel.

Not particularly pretty but the build-up was slick.

    Watford 0-0 Derby

Derby boss Wayne Rooney is prowling his technical area, hands in pockets.

He'll be chuffed with how his managerial career has started, but will be equally aware that he's still in the honeymoon period.

Patrick Roberts is getting on the ball for the Rams but the quality of pass in the final third isn't there yet.

    Watford 0-0 Derby

It's all been a bit too nice so far - both sides showing each other a lot of respect.

Watford are edging things but no chances of note.

We need a big challenge or for someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck.

    Watford 0-0 Derby

If you believe the rumour mill Ismaila Sarr was being tracked by several Premier League sides following Watford's relegation from the top flight.

He's started brightly here, getting down the right and seeing a dangerous cross headed clear by Derby defender Andre Wisdom.

    Watford 0-0 Derby

Xisco Munoz's Watford are pressing high up the pitch and have won the ball off Derby in their own half once or twice.

The visitors are just trying to settle.

A fairly quiet start at Vicarage Road.

But I can see plenty of short sleeves and barely any gloves, so spring must be coming!

Victory for Xisco Munoz's Watford would see them move level on points with second-placed Brentford, four points behind leaders Norwich.

Derby are six points clear of the bottom three and will move up at least one place if Wayne Rooney's side can win at Vicarage Road.

    Watford v Derby (19:45 GMT)

Watford make just the one change from their win at Preston on Tuesday, with William Troost-Ekong in for Francisco Sierralta at centre-back.

Wayne Rooney on the other hand has made five changes to his Derby side after he was displeased with their performance despite a stoppage time victory at Wycombe.

Patrick Roberts and George Edmundson make their first starts for the club.

Watford: Bachmann, Femenia, Cathcart, Troost-Ekong, Masina, Cleverley, Chalobah, Hughes, Sarr, Joao Pedro, Sema

Watford have kept six clean sheets in their past eight Championship games, and have more victories and points at home this season than any other side in the division.

But Derby are no longer pushovers themselves - only Swansea have conceded fewer goals than the Rams since Wayne Rooney took sole charge.

They've won on three of their past four league visits to Vicarage Road, with the Hornets trying to do a double over their visitors for the first time ever.

Football is incessant this season and we absolutely love it.

To kick off the weekend we have fourth-placed Watford - with just one defeat in eight - up against a Derby side who have moved clear of the Championship relegation zone with five wins from six games.

We should have some high-quality stuff to describe to you.
