    Cardiff v Preston (15:00 GMT)

    Mick McCarthyImage source, PA Media

Mick McCarthy's brilliant start to life as Cardiff boss continued in midweek with a 2-0 success at Luton.

The Bluebirds looked like they could be in danger of getting sucked into a relegation battle when the veteran took over last month but a run of four straight wins has propelled them up to seventh in the table.

However, they're still six points off the play-off places and they'll need to keep this renaissance going if they're to break into the top six.

They host a Preston side who have struggled for consistency all season but have been far better away from home than at Deepdale.

    QPR v Bournemouth (15:00 GMT)

    Jonathan WoodgateImage source, Rex Features

Bournemouth caretaker boss Jonathan Woodgate has steadied the ship since taking over from the sacked Jason Tindall earlier this month.

The former Middlesbrough boss has recorded three wins and one draw so far but could well be overlooked for the permanent gig in favour of Montreal Impact boss, and Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry.

However, the sixth-placed Cherries can not afford to let their focus slip on the field with both Cardiff and Boro chasing down their play-off spot.

Opponents QPR have won their past three matches to climb clear of relegation danger and towards midtable.

  4. Royals appointment for Warnock's Boropublished at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2021

    Reading v Middlesbrough (15:00 GMT)

Reading put some recent poor form to bed with a comfortable 2-0 win at out-of-sorts Bristol City in midweek.

Veljko Paunovic's men have been in the top six all season but if they're to have any hope of troubling the top two they're going to need to put together a run of wins.

Middlesbrough's top six hopes were badly dented by a run of form that saw them lose four home games in a row at the start of this year.

They ended that with a 2-1 win over strugglers Huddersfield in midweek and will be targeting another positive result today to keep the pressure on the play-off pack.

Bristol City v Barnsley (15:00 GMT)

    Dean HoldenImage source, Rex Features

Bristol City's lacklustre form saw boss Dean Holden sacked on Wednesday night, straight after the 2-0 home defeat by Reading.

The Ashton Gate side have now lost their past five league games and any hopes of a play-off push seem like a distant memory.

They're still comfortably above the relegation zone but they can ill-afford to keep this losing run going.

Barnsley, three points above them, have won their past two games and a third win today will have Tykes fans dreaming of a tilt at the top six.

  6. League One latestpublished at 14:41 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2021

    Gillingham 1-0 Bristol Rovers

We had one early kick off in League One today and heading into the final 15 minutes Gillingham lead struggling Bristol Rovers 1-0.

It's been a topsy-turvy few minutes for striker John Akinde.

He scored to give the Gills the lead and then won a penalty minutes later but saw his effort from 12 yards saved by Joe Day in the Bristol Rovers goal.

  8. Tough times for Terrierspublished at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2021

    Huddersfield v Swansea (15:00 GMT)

Huddersfield's bright start to the season under new boss Carlos Corberan feels like a long time ago now.

The Terriers are without a win in any competition this year and start today's games just five points clear of the relegation zone.

They could probably do without a visit from one of the league's brightest lights then.

Swansea are fourth in the table with games in hand and after Wednesday's late win over Nottingham Forest there's a real sense this could be the year they return to the Premier League.

Sheff Wed v Birmingham (15:00 GMT)

    Aitor KarankaImage source, Rex Features

Possibly the biggest game of the day sees 22nd-placed Sheffield Wednesday host 23rd-placed Birmingham.

The hosts have been in pretty decent form since Neil Thompson took over on a caretaker basis at the end of 2020 but looked out of sorts in their midweek loss at Stoke.

Opponents Birmingham are in wretched form and have won just one of their past 13 league games.

Another loss today and boss Aitor Karanka's spell in charge could be over before the home game against league leaders Norwich on Tuesday.

  10. Can Millers upset league leaders?published at 14:30 Greenwich Mean Time 20 February 2021

    Norwich v Rotherham (15:00 GMT)

Emi Buendia celebratesImage source, PA Media

Norwich's promotion push looked like it was starting to flag after a 2-0 defeat at fellow promotion hopefuls Swansea a couple of weeks ago.

However, comprehensive wins over Stoke and Coventry have seen them cement their place at the top of the table.

Today's opponents Rotherham might be just above the relegation zone but they're certainly no pushovers and Millers boss Paul Warne will be desperate to get one over his hometown club.

    FT: Coventry City 2-0 Brentford

So another pointless trip to Birmingham for Brentford this season as they lose for a second time this campaign at St Andrew's.

Disappointment for the Bees but elation for the Sky Blues with a very welcome win.

Little time to dwell on that though as we're not far away from the majority of the afternoon's action in the Championship, League One and League Two.

Ian Woodcock will take you through all the runners and riders ahead of 15:00 GMT....

Coventry deservedly come away with the three points.

Tyler Walker's brace secures them a first league win in six matches and moves them, fo now, six points clear of the bottom three.

Brentford are beaten for the third time in six days and they could fall further behind the leaders come the end of the day.

    Josh Dasilva threatens for Brentford.

Sergi Canos again let down by his first touch as he and Marcus Forss tried to combine on the edge of Coventry's penalty area.

    Canos visibly frustrated.

  20. Postpublished at 85 mins

    Coventry City 2-0 Brentford

All rather flat and uninspiring from Brentford for the most part this afternoon.

Five changes from Thomas Frank, some injury-enforced of course, have certainly affected them.
