    Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Barcelona

All over! It was steady and certainly not spectacular. But Barcelona have done what they set out to and have reached the Copa del Rey quarter finals!

Second-tier Rayo took a shock lead through Fran Garcia in the second half, but Barcelona hit back to level shortly after through returning skipper Lionel Messi.

And the Catalan giants sealed their passage to the last eight when Frenkie de Jong turned in Jordi Alba's cross.

That's all from our live coverage - thanks for joining us! Hasta luego.

    Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Barcelona

URGH! How disappointing for Rayo. The free-kick lacks pace and doesn't reach the waiting white shirts in the box.

    That should be that.

    Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Barcelona

Rayo sub Alvaro Garcia is a real nuisance. He draws Oscar Minguela into another daft challenge on the left, about 35 yards out. The keeper comes up...

Same again. Barcelona losing their discipline here and getting sucked into these untidy challenges. Again, the visitors clear and Dembele almost latches on to it.

Another chance for Rayo to chuck a free-kick into the Barca box... cleared.

    Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Barcelona

FIVE minutes of stoppage time for Rayo to snatch an equaliser... but wait! Barca could seal it on the counter... Messi... still Messi... he's dancing around defenders in the box. But he can't squeeze in with his right foot after rounding the keeper.

In it goes... Barca clear the first ball but it falls to Alvaro Garcia on the edge. The Rayo sub shoots but it lacks power and accuracy as Neto gathers.

    Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Barcelona

Martin Braithwaite's first serious contribution is clattering a Rayo opponent close to the halfway line and picking up a yellow card.

Chance for Rayo to lump it into the Barca box...

    Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Barcelona

Ouch! Barca defender Ronald Araujo might be half a foot taller than Rayo's Alvaro Garcia, but this is still going to hurt.

Garcia backs into Araujo as the Barca man jumps for a high ball, causing a painful landing. The need for treatment handily runs down the clock too...

    Rayo Vallecano 1-2 Barcelona

Ronald Koeman looks to run down the clock and slow down the play, I'd suggest.

The Barca boss brings on Martin Braithwaite for Antoine Griezmann. You'd imagine the Danish forward's brief is to make the ball stick when it comes into the Rayo half.

That nous of Jordi Alba has proved useful for Barca at both ends of the pitch. You can't see the Catalans losing this lead now...

So that means Barcelona are about 10 minutes from the Copa Del Rey quarter-finals...

    Frenkie de Jong

Don't cancel your plans to watch the 10 o'clock news!

It's been a slog but Barca are finally in front. Lionel Messi sets Jordi Alba scampering away down the left flank and his cross is perfect for Frenkie de Jong to crash in from close range.

Another wonderfully timed run from the Dutchman. As is Barca taking the lead...

Another reminder: if there are no more goals in the next 11 or so minutes then we will go to extra-time.

Not surprising that Rayo's attacking raids are rarer than they were before.

Barca dominant as they look to wrap this one up sharpish.

Oooh, almost in. Lionel Messi jigs into the Rayo area and tries to shuffle around the defenders, only to run into a white shirt just before he attempts to shoot.

    Rayo Vallecano 1-1 Barcelona

You'd fancy Ousmane Dembele's pace to stretch the tiring Rayo legs in this final 20 minutes.

While a Rayo gets some treatment, we get another look at the goal.

Wonderful movement by Griezmann, who sprints out into the left channel and holds his line to collect Frenkie de Jong's pass.

And the pass, well, it left Messi with the sort of chance that an actual goat could have hoofed in.

    Lionel Messi

Guess who? Yes, it's the main man.

Finally Barcelona find a way through as Lionel Messi thumps them back level with a low finish.

Not sure how he was allowed to ghost in at the far post and meet Antoine Griemann's cross, mind.
