  5. 'We miss the goals from our strikers'published at 18:28 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    Newcastle 3-2 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl told BBC Sport: "The story is easy to tell, a horrible start again conceding goals far too easy and it is always tough to fight back, we tried it and but did not do it well in the end. We have chances in the second half but not enough to deserve to win.

"In the moment we miss the goals from our strikers. If we equalise the whole game can go in a different direction. It is good some players are coming back and we must quickly find the reset button.

"I was sure very pleased (about the support) and I felt we could give something back today. A tough situation we are in at the moment but we have to find a way out as quickly as possible.

"As I said, we know we can do it better, we have shown it this season. It is not possible to win at 70-80%, we know we are only strong when we play at our best"

  6. 'It's difficult to play against nine men'published at 18:24 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    FT: Newcastle 3-2 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton's Nathan Redmond: "We have to do better in the first half, it starts from there. Three sloppy mistakes and three goals, that's the Premier League. In the second half we tried to impose ourselves on the game more and more but we were lacking that bit of luck in the area, but we've got to work harder on cutting out that bit of complacency because we've got to give ourselves a chance.

"We have to look at ourselves a little more in detail. There's going to be more tough games coming up. It's a challenge we've been through before and we're not going to shy away from it. It's difficult to play against 10 men, nine men, in the Premier League they're experienced players and they did very well keeping us out. I think for me it boils down to those three lapses in concentration and that sloppiness on the ball. Before that we had a real chance in the game."

On bouncing back from the 9-0 defeat: "We've been there before and it's never nice, but at the end of the day we're fortunate enough to have near enough the same group of players that pulled us out, and we'll pull out mout resuits just like we did last time. We're not worried but there's a lot more hard work to be done. We don't want that result last week to define our season. We had a good start to the season, it wasn't so long ago we were in and around top four or six. The work's not done, there's still a lot of games to be played."

  7. 'Not much more you can ask for!'published at 18:20 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    FT: Newcastle 3-2 Southampton

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's debut goalscorer Joe Willock speaking to Match of the Day: "There's not much more you can ask for! I'm delighted to help the boys and get the three points. I want to get into the box and score goals.

"It was hard, we had to stick together. The boss told us that they were going to come for us and we have to come out fighting. We stuck together.

"Credit to all our boys and the Newcastle family. We all stick together and fight for each other and we done that in the second half. I'm not looking all that far ahead, I'm looking game by game and working hard in training and hopefully I'll play more games and score more goals."

  8. 'Managing Newcastle is a health hazard!'published at 18:19 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    FT: Newcastle 3-2 Southampton

    Newcastle United

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce, speaking to BBC Sport: "I think I've been at the club 18 months and it's a health hazard! Just as we're going along nicely, we get a great chance to make it four and within two minutes they're scoring and we're down to 10 men.

"I can't fault their effort and attitude . For large periods of the first half I was pleased with their work. I think we were half an hour with 10, 20 minutes with nine, and we know how difficult that is - Southampton shipped in goal after goal the other night.

"They were terrific in their defending, their attitude, and their application to get a result was pretty evident. The players are enjoying it but what you do need along the way are a few results, but performances have pleased me, little signs of encouragement. We'll keep plugging away.

"I'm never going to say we've turned a corner but I've been pleased over the last month, there have been signs of improvement. The players are buying into it, so let's hope we can get a few more results along the way."

On their fresh injury concerns: "Today Javier Manquillo looks like he's done his ankle ligaments, Fabian Schar looks like he's done his knee, that could be pretty serious.

"It's one step forward, two steps back at the minute. Callum Wilson is another one, we don't know how bad it is. The amount of games we're playing at the moment is ridiculous."

If I was watching this game on a day off I'd have turned it off by now to play Fifa or watch Netflix instead, if I'm being honest.

Actually I should say I'd be watching the iPlayer. Pretend I said that.

Fulham's best chance of the game. Ivan Cavaleiro barges his way past a couple of West Ham defenders and finds Ademola Lookman, who drags a 25-yard shot just wide of goal.
