I am too far away to see who it was but when referee Jon Moss gave a free-kick for Tom Davies' challenge on Bruno Fernandes just then, someone in the Everton contingent sat at the back of the lower tier of the stand stood up and bellowed his disapproval at he official.

It wasn't in English but I am fairly sure it wasn't 'well done, sir, you got that one spot on'.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said yesterday that the ongoing financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic may well have an effect on his transfer plans this summer.

However, United are recruiting in their youth department.

My understanding is the club are targetting three schoolboys at Derby, where they have links through Wayne Rooney and have just sent defender Teden Mengi on loan.

The Rams have an excellent youth system and have just sold 16-year-old Kaide Gordon to Liverpool for £1m.

Fred puts in a fairly good performance and United win 9-0 midweek. And then next match he gets replaced by limp Pogba?

Stick Bailly in defence and I think that's our best 11 at the moment.

"One cold and bitter Thursday in Munich, Germany,

"Eight great football stalwarts conceded victory,

"Eight men will never play again who met destruction there,

"The flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester."

On this day in 1958, Manchester United suffered the tragedy of the Munich Air Disaster.

Man Utd v Everton (20:00 GMT)

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer speaking to Sky Sports:

“We have got to draw on the good memories we have got. We have struggled to score goals here at Old Trafford before that in the season. Do the right things and not force things. If we do that the chances will come.

"Football is a strange game. If you get the first goal, there are little things that decide a game. For us it is about drawing on good experiences and trying to eradicate mistakes.

"The football we are seeing now is not the same because when you have 75,000 people behind you that helps and gives you an edge. They have some strong physical players, they are quick on the break and have been really good away from home."

On Paul Pogba’s return to the team: "I like most of the things with Paul as a footballer, he is creative and he is now doing a shift for us defensively. He is physical and wins headers for us and today set plays will be important for us."

    Everton

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti tells Sky Sports: "We have to have more control of the ball and defend well. We have to try to use our quality, don't be scared or afraid to try to create difficulties on Manchester United defensively.

"We want to play with intensity and are playing one of the best teams in the Premier League. We want to use all our energy and possibilities.

"The away record is because there are no fans in the crowd. At home we are not good but United had more difficulties at home, away they have done really well. They have slipped up at home before and I hope they slip at home tonight."

  17. 'When you win a few, you believe'published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

Man Utd v Everton (20:00 GMT)

    Everton

Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin speaking to Sky Sports: "Sometimes a home crowd can be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on which way the game is going so for us nothing changes. It is still a great big stadium and we will be looking to do the same as normal."

On winning against Leeds: "It was a massive confidence boost. You can have momentum and then all of a sudden it's gone. I think it was important we put in a good performance and that sets us up for today.

"Once upon a time we didn't have the greatest away form but when you win a few you believe you can and it goes from there."

Since the first season of the Premier League 28 years ago, Everton have won at Old Trafford once.

The only Premier League game they have won here since that 3-0 success in 1992 came in 2013, when Brian Oviedo scored a late winner for Everton against a Manchester United side managed by David Moyes.

I wonder if Moyes will watch this meeting between his old clubs, when he has stopped steaming over Tomas Soucek's red card that is.
