The USA haven't been as a big a threat as I thought. Up front they are a bit lacking. It's been difficult but when we get on the ball we have been able to get through the pitch. We have had the best chance through big Kyle but unfortunately he pulled it wide.

  6. A first half with little to cheerpublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 28 March 2021

    Northern Ireland 0-1 USA

    Mark Sterling
BBC Sport NI at Windsor Park

The USA have looked dangerous going forward at times with some of their big names enjoying good possession in the Northern Ireland half without creating many chances.

From a home team's perspective, the ever-willing running of Shayne Lavery up front has been the only bright spark of a 45 minutes that will not live long in the memory.

The windy conditions are difficult, no doubt, and there are a lot of inexperienced players on the pitch, but the performance will have done nothing to quell those who question the value of these friendly matches sandwiched in between World Cup qualifiers.

It was a lucky deflection that saw the ball beat goalkeeper Conor Hazard, but it was poor Northern Ireland defending that allowed Gio Reyna the time to have a shot.

The home defence sat off initially and then Conor McLaughlin dived in, allowing Reyna to step to the side and get his shot away.

Northern Ireland with work to do again if they are going to end their long search for a win during 90 minutes.

  18. NI 'have to do better'published at 17:37 British Summer Time 28 March 2021

    NI 0-1 USA

    John O'Neill
Former Northern Ireland defender on BBC Radio Ulster

What a terrible goal to concede. We're watching Reyna standing there and we're doing nothing. There's no approach at all. The art of defending seems to have gone from the modern game. You have to defend better than that.

  19. goal

GOAL - NI 0-1 USApublished at 30 mins

    Gio Reyna

The USA take the lead with their first shot on target.

Tim Ream picks out Borussia Dortmund teenager Gio Reyna. He blasts in a shot from 22 yards, which Ciaron Brown throws himself at. Unfortunately it takes a huge deflection off the defender and Conor Hazard had already committed himself so it loops in.
