That's all for tonight, folks. Thanks for tuning in.

It was a disappointing night for Northern Ireland but you can catch up on the action in our match report. Keep an eye on the website for reaction from Ian Baraclough after the game.

    Read the report here.

Earlier, the Republic of Ireland survived a major scare as they came from a goal down to beat lowly Andorra 4-1.

Troy Parrott was the hero as he scored twice to give Stephen Kenny his first win as boss.

That's all from us for now. We'll have more live football on Saturday night when Larne take on Cliftonville in the big-money European play-off final. You can watch it live on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website from 5.25pm!

    Night all!

Former Northern Ireland winger Keith Gillespie would like to see more of Dion Charles, who was in fine goalscoring form for Accrington Stanley this season.

I think Dan Ballard is a starter in the three in the back, which is the way forward for us with Ballard, Jonny Evans and Cathcart all playing together. Ciaron Brown was excellent tonight and is one who can come in if one of those three are injured. We didn't learn that much in terms of the personal who played, who all know what they can do. I would like to see a lot more of Dion Charles. I've liked him when I've seen him. Why was he brought on for the last couple of minutes? Give him 10 to 15 minutes to get into the game but I'm not sure that he touched the ball. I think it was a bit of a pointless substitution, maybe someone was carrying a knock but he certainly he deserves more game time.

  3. What's next for NI?published at 21:00 British Summer Time 3 June 2021

    Ukraine 1-0 Northern Ireland (Res)

Without the Euro 2020 finals to look forward to, Northern Ireland are back in action in September in World Cup qualifying.

It's a triple-header (Waheyyy...) that starts with an away game in Lithuania before a trip to Estonia and Switzerland's visit to Windsor Park.

I thought we were the better side in the second-half but they missed a number of chances to put the game to bed. We deserve credit for the second-half performance. We didn't get close to them at the start but we got on the ball more. There is still an issue with creating chances, Ciaron Brown's header was our only shot on target so it's disappointing. But it was a resilient performance, you want to win games but we didn't disgrace ourselves tonight.

Gavin Whyte wins a free-kick and despite putting the spray down, Paddy McNair gets booked by the referee for protesting that the home wall had drifted in front of the line. Which they clearly had.

McNair steps up but sends it well wide and that should be that.

  7. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 3 June 2021

    Ukraine 1-0 Northern Ireland

I don't think Ukraine want their second goal. It looks like a tap-in for Besedin after more swift attacking play but he drifts into an offside position before putting the ball home.

The flag is up and it's the correct call. We're into injury-time and time is running out if NI are to find an equaliser.

Here's a debut for Chelsea defender Sam McClelland with two minutes to play!

He's on for Ciaron Brown while Dion Charles replaces Stuart Dallas.

Another glimpse into the future for Baraclough's men.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:46 British Summer Time 3 June 2021

    Ukraine 1-0 Northern Ireland

Daniel Ballard blocks Andriy Yarmolenko's strike, who really should have had a hat-trick before Peacock-Farrell again comes to the rescue to claw the ball away from the lunging Besedin on the rebound.

He's been very strong between the sticks.

Stuart Dallas must be counting down the minutes after a gruelling season with Leeds United before leading NI in the two friendlies. He deserves a break more than anyone.

On the other hand, he may run back to Belfast from Ukraine. Absolutely relentless.

  11. CLOSE!published at 20:39 British Summer Time 3 June 2021

    Ukraine 1-0 Northern Ireland

Stuart Dallas finds Ali McCann down the left and his deep cross picks out Paddy McNair at the back post.

He takes a touch to set himself but his powerful effort is well over.

Meanwhile Gavin Whyte is on for St Johnstone's McCann, who has been excellent yet again. Eight to go.

It would be some laugh if Andriy Shevchenko brought himself on for the final 10 minutes. Reckon he's still got it?

Andriy Yarmolenko will be wondering how he hasn't scored tonight as Bailey Peacock-Farrell again denies the home captain with a smart save.

Northern Ireland have been the better side this half but that's a warning sign that Ukraine can hit them on the counter.

  14. CLOSE!published at 20:31 British Summer Time 3 June 2021

    Ukraine 1-0 Northern Ireland

Ali McCann splits the home defence with a superb through ball to find Kyle Lafferty, who in turn finds Smyth on the edge of the area.

He's running on to it at pace and decides to have a go first time but it's well wide.

Smyth scored a brilliant winner on his debut against South Korea in 2018 and, like Lafferty, tonight would be a good time to find the net again and bring out his trademark acrobatic celebration.

  15. Postpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 3 June 2021

    Ukraine 1-0 Northern ireland

Paul Smyth comes on for Shane Ferguson and wins his first cap since the tour to Panama in 2018.

He just needs to imagine he's playing at Mourneview Park in Linfield blue and we'll be grand. Equaliser guaranteed.

  16. Postpublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 3 June 2021

    Ukraine 1-0 Northern Ireland

Ali McCann, one of the smallest players on the pitch, glances a header wide from Stuart Dallas' cross.

The cross had plenty of pace so it was difficult to direct his header towards goal, but McCann has been another excellent addition to this team who doesn't look out of place.

  17. Postpublished at 20:20 British Summer Time 3 June 2021

    Ukraine 1-0 Northern Ireland

Ukraine have a free-kick right on the edge of the area after Jordan Thompson caught Matviyenko.

Paddy McNair is the draught excluder under the wall, a sight which will never stop being bizarre, but he's not required as Matviyenko sends it high into the stand.

Kyle Lafferty is coming on for Josh Magennis

His last goal came against Azerbaijan in 2017, this would be an excellent night to end his drought.

  19. Postpublished at 20:16 British Summer Time 3 June 2021

Dan Ballard has looked solid after flying in from Blackpool's promotion party on Sunday.

It's impressive commitment after helping Blackpool climb to the Championship, I don't think you'd see me for a week. Yet again, that's probably why I'm sitting here and not playing at Wembley.

You wouldn't think this is only Ballard's eighth cap, he's been a great introduction to the NI defence.

Josh Magennis is denied by a brilliant block from Matviyenko after he cut back inside on his left foot on the edge of the area.

Much, much better from the visitors.
