Ian Baraclough finally picked up his first win as Northern Ireland boss inside 90 minutes against Malta on Sunday and he has called for more of the same against Ukraine.

"We could have won by more goals against Malta and it's something we have worked on - being more positive in our play, getting forward and creating openings," said Baraclough.

"What has been missing previously is finishing the moves off but I thought the lads were clinical in their play the majority of the time. Winning gives everyone a lift but there is more to work on.

"We are trying to get used to certain things, getting players to work in and understand certain systems.

"For me, it's about everyone coming from this trip having learnt something, having gained some experience from it and having enjoyed it."

Northern Ireland manager Ian Baraclough has largely trusted the players who eased past Malta on Sunday.

He's made three chances, with Dan Ballard coming straight into the side from Blackpool's promotion party on Sunday. George Saville and Shane Ferguson also start, with Jordan Thompson, and Sunday's goalscorers Gavin Whyte and Jordan Jones dropping out.

Will wins be like buses for Ian Baraclough? The Northern Ireland manager is certainly hoping so.

After securing his first victory during 90 minutes with a comfortable 3-0 win over Malta on Sunday, Baraclough's Northern Ireland return to friendly action in Dnipro against their old friends Ukraine, who themselves are preparing for this summer's Euros.

It's a fixture that will never not make NI supporters think of that special, special night in Lyon at the 2016 Euros, but another win tonight would also serve as a major boost to Baraclough.

He has vital World Cup qualifiers coming up at the start of September and will be determined to send his players off on their summer holidays in a positive frame of mind.

Well, the Republic certainly made hard work of that but it's Stephen Kenny's first win as boss at the 12th time of asking.

They were given a huge scare when Vales headed home the opener but Troy Parrott, who dragged the Republic out of trouble, Jason Knight and Daryl Horgan eventually secured the win.

It's a big victory but the majority of the game offered more questions than answers.
