It has been a tremendous performance from Northern Ireland. The movement in midfield, the ball retention, decision making, they have been outstanding. We haven't let Lithuania settle at all. The one negative has been the final ball. We need to be more clinical. There are goals out there tonight but we just have to finish off our chances.

  7. Italy level at the breakpublished at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2021

It's all square at half-time in the other Group C game between Italy and Switzerland.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo netted the leveller for the Italians on 36 minutes.

  8. NI seeking second-goal cushionpublished at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2021

More chances right at the end of the half there reinforced just how much Northern Ireland are in control of this game.

Ian Baraclough will be happy with the performance and particularly the quality of the passing, but he'll have that Lithuania chance in the back of his head.

The cushion of a second goal hasn't arrived yet and he won't settle until it does.

At just 1-0 you would imagine it's too delicately poised to make any half-time changes, but a few early goals after the break and he might be able to think about giving Dale Taylor or Ethan Galbraith some game time.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2021

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Lithuania

Northern Ireland go in at half-time a goal to the good.

Should be more really but still plenty of time to add to their tally in the second 45.

  11. CLOSE!published at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2021

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Lithuania

Josh Magennis goes close and then George Saville blazes wide following a great run and pass by Paddy McNair.

Northern Ireland still pushing for a second.

  12. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 20:29 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2021

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Lithuania

Josh Magennis heads the ball into the net but referee Istvan Vad rules that the striker has been overly physical with defender Ovidijus Verbickas in giving himself space and the 'goal's is ruled out.

That's twice now that the hosts have found the net but have been denied by the referee's decisions.

  13. Postpublished at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2021

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Lithuania

The frantic early pace of this game has tailed off slightly but Northern Ireland are still in the ascendancy and looking relatively comfortable.

  15. Peacock-Farrell with a reminderpublished at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2021

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Lithuania

    Mark Sterling

It's a while since Northern Ireland have dominated a competitive match this much.

Lithuania were struggling to get out of their half until Justas Lasickas went through one-on-one and Bailey Peacock-Farrell had to come out and make a smart save with his feet.

A reminder, if ever one was needed, that Northern Ireland need to stay focused no matter how much domination of the ball they are enjoying.

    Quote Message

It is a long time since I have seen Northern Ireland play football of this calibre. They are playing with no fear at all and passing it about with aplomb. Despite all their possession however one moment of lost concentration and you can concede a goal very quickly.

  17. CLOSE!published at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2021

    Lithuania 1-0 Northern Ireland

Lithuania go close to an equaliser against the run of play as Justas Lasickas goes through one-on-one with Bailey Peacock-Farrell but the home keeper is equal to the task, standing tall and making a fine save.

A warning shot across the bows for Northern Ireland.

  18. Swiss on a rollpublished at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2021

In tonight's other Group C game, Silvan Widmer has Switzerland 1-0 up away to Euro champions Italy. That goal coming in the 11th minute.

Those two teams went into this evening level on points as they chase automatic qualification for the 2022 Qatar finals.

You can work on systems and tactics as much as you want, but when an opposition defender heads the ball into his own net it still means as much.

Paddy McNair's corner was dangerous and, under pressure from Josh Magennis, Satkus could only find the top corner.

The stadium announcer credited Magennis with the goal, but that was generous to say the least.
